Just came back from Lindblad Sitka to Juneau expedition cruise in mid-May. Mostly agree with the packing list. Hiking boots only would have been a problem as the “boot sucking mud” really pulled off the hiking shoes. The calf-high water-proof boots stayed on. I definitely needed 2 pairs of socks with them, especially the heavy pair combined with a lighter hiking pair. Lindblad provided heavy hiking staffs that worked better than my hiking pole. I often wore all 4-5 layers all day. My favorite kayaking bottom combo was light-weight long-underwear, Marino wool layer, fleece-lined. Hiking pants, and then rain pants. Top layer was similar with light long underwear, Marino wool layer, fleece top, insulated vest, north-face thermoball jacket, and then gortex rain jacket. I wore a Marino wool gator all the time and often a baseball cap topped with a wool cap. Yes, I carried a day pack with me and changed/carried layers as needed. I wish I had brought a warmer longer windproof insulated coat as there were many hours spent on the bow of the ship, returning inside, and then going back out - a single coat would have been easier to get on and off. I wish I had brought a few prettier tops for dinner and some easy slip-on shoes for the many hours on the boat. I also wish I had clear and not transition (darkening) lens in my glasses as I needed to take my glasses off to use my camera. In May,there was no need for bug repellent but did frequently use sunscreen. I had a most glorious trip.

Great video, thanks!! Just starting to consider an expedition cruise. Your bag looked pretty large for a carryon :) Maybe it was the camera angle haha

Great tips and we have our layers ready! We still need to get a waterproof backpack. Do you have a favorite brand?

Our Osprey is water resistant. We have heard good things about Yeti waterproofs. They come in different sizes and weights, too.

Thanks for a great video. Do you recommend waterproof hiking shoes, or is this overkill?

Thanks for watching. If you go with an expedition cruise line, they will have proper boots for you to use. These are larger knee high boots to go into the bush and in muddy trails and streams. They work great.

Wondering what luggage you used. We’re signed up for a late May trip.

i wish the camera didn't speed through how you actually got all your belongings in one carryon which certainly saves on baggage fees if you are flying.... or may you could have trimmed the video, made a separate video without speeding up the camera for that part. That would be very useful too.

Thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback. I didn't think people wanted to watch me painstakingly rolling my clothes. Lol. I also use packing cubes to help organize and optimize space. Are you going to Alaska soon? Happy travels!

Good video, but it does not address any clothes for dinners; dress pants, shirts, shoes, suits, etc.
