Thank you so much for this informative video! I was wondering if you knew if adding designs to gummed paper tape would prevent it from being recyclable? Thanks in advance!!

Thanks! I was struggling with a Scotch brand “moving tape”; it didn’t seem to want to hold to the boxes well. I began to think moving tape is different than shipping tape.

Love these videos! What gummed tape dispensers would you recommend? And could you make a video about shipping labels and thermal printers? Thanks!

Thanks, Charkie! Our gummed tape dispenser is from Better Packages. Great episode idea! What do you want to know about labels and thermal printers?

Lumi Basically how to create delivery labels if you are a total newbie to delivery and fulfilment. And your recommendations for thermal label printers. Thanks!

Does either of them affect recyclability? If I'm aiming for packaging that is easy to recycle what's the best choice? Also, for a very low volume shipper, can a gummed paper tape be manually wetted (such as with a sponge) ? Thank you!
@ShippingThings7 жыл бұрын
Hey Jotham! Great question. When boxes are recycled, they're blended up and any labels or plastics stuck on the box get sifted out. So both tapes can stay on the box to be recycled, but the gummed paper tape require a little less effort for recycling facilities because it's paper. Actually, we have a whole episode on recycling: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boDCnn13g9uSgZY And yes you can use a sponge! For lower volumes, it's a great solution. 👍

Several incorrect points here. 1. polyester tape. - there is such a thing as polyester tape but it is hardly ever used because its very expensive. The film type that is being discussed here is polypropylene. She also mentions PVC film which is available in the market but it is not stronger than polypropylene and is not used very often due to cost. 2. Water activated tape rolls are longer. Untrue. Most polypropylene carton sealing tape are 110 yards long. Sometimes 55 yards long, but most often 110 yards long. Most water activated gummed tape rolls are either 375 "feet" long or 450 "feet long. One is yards, the other is feet per roll. 3. Width - its true that polypropylene tape are typically 2" wide and water activated is 3" wide. However, you can get 3" wide polypropylene tape which is actually better to use in order to align properly down the center and it gives greater area to stick to the box.

So the water activated tapes are 125 or 150 yards long, which seems longer than 110 yards or 55 yards. So it seems the video presenter is indeed correct.
