Hi There, Thanks for the video, very helpful... When checking punching shear, you use pressure q = 140 kPa. Isn't this supposed to be 150 kPa as stated in the question?

Well presented video. Few comments. 1. At time 6:14, the effective depth should be calculated by 450-50-16/2 and not 16. 2. Can you reference the code when making your videos to sweeten up. All in all, very well presented and so helpful. I am definitely subscribing and following your page.

Are rebars along the short direction, must be at the bottom and those along long direction be sitting on top of the bottom? In other words, lay the rebars along short direction first?

The pressure q1 exceeds the allowable bearing capacity does that mean the sizing of the pad footing needs to be increased? (especially as you are checking under SLS loads it would fail under ULS surely?)

Hi BEng This video is very useful Thanks for doing this video I was able to clarify a lots of points which i was unsure about Can u please do an another video how to design combined footing with unequal vertical loads and also footing subjected to horizontal forces Thanks

Hi , I did one on strap footing, which is very similar to combined footings, but I'll write down this topic. Thanks

Hi BEng I have a question regarding pad footings, when there is an axial load and moments in 2 directions, how do we get maximum pressure to check if the allowable bearing pressure can satisfy that pressure. Thank you
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyral. have you tried to do the same process, but with the other moment? If the pad footing is square, the numbers related to the geometry will be the same, then you just need to change the moement. Have a go and let me know if any issues.

Hi BEng! Thank you for sharing nice work! how do we design when we don't know Moment? For example, pad footing connected with steel column under floor bearer? Can I just calculate moment with G+Q and eccentricity (width of column)??? Thank you!
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus Жыл бұрын
Moment is the force times the eccentricity. If there is no eccentricity and your column is pinned at the base, you don't have to design the pad for moment.

hello sir, the fcv is greater than 0.34sqf'c. why use 1.558 as fcv?
@gabrielbobmarley2 жыл бұрын
HI Sad, 0.34 sqr 25 = 1.7 are you using a different fck?

Would you show us how the calculation of the depth of footing is, from the ground level? Or perhaps show us the table of footing depths with corresponding soil bearing capacity. Thanks in advance.
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus Жыл бұрын
Hi... that will vary. You would have to look at the soil test. Good idea for a video.

Is it acceptable to design a footing with e = L/6 ? This e has no tension as well. Which is better design, e < L/6 or e = L/6 ?
@michaelacheampong2869 Жыл бұрын
e< l/6 thats the best option so don't use the threshold

How to find the banding moment? Do I consider the whole steel column of the shed?
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus3 ай бұрын
The bending moment comes from your structural analysis. It should be the bending moment at the base of the column if you draw a bending moment diagram.

Hi BEng, I just have a quick question on AS2870-2011. On Figure 3.1 in page 29, the slab depth for edge beam design is shown as 100mm-150mm. Is this for a specific load or can this slab depth be used for any loading condition? What if the structure (say warehouse) will have a very high load sitting on it (around 4000kg). Should we adopt the same 150mm thick slab or go for higher?
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus2 жыл бұрын
Hi Zee, I wouldn't use that thickness for warehouses. You should look at Industrial floors and pavements design. Slabs for these type of structures vary from 150 to 200 thick to account for industrial vehicles. Do you mean 4000 kg point load? Have a look at the Cement Concrete Aggregates Australia website.
@zeeshot2 жыл бұрын
@@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus Thanks BEng :) Appreciate your response Yes, I was looking at a point load. I will checkout the stuff you referred

@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mayuran...Simple rule of 3. - N16 has an area of 201mm2. 768mm2 ------------------1000mm 201mm2------------------- x x = 261 Choose a round number below 261. x = 250

Hi, just wondering if you made a mistake for Bh? Should it be 1.4 in the punching shear check?
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus3 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Bh is the ratio of the larger column dimension 600 to smaller column dimension 250 600/250=2.4
@tayloorsih3 жыл бұрын
whoops sorry you're right, I thought it was the shear perimeter dimensions.
