There's an album called "Songs of Mourning" by Carl Gene which is one of the most harrowing things I've ever listened to. It's about his mother's suicide and even contains audio of a detective reading his mother's suicide note to him. It's uncomfortably personal because you feel like you've been inserted into one of the darkest moments in a person's life. I've never experienced anything quite like it.

I know you've said on live streams that you'll get to it, but if you haven't yet, please, please, please take a day and deep dive into Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Brian Eno. I don't care if you never do a video on any of them, but it's a serious dissonance where you know so much about what they've inspired but are missing these core foundations. Now, for the show, I think you would have a blast covering Ghost Box Records. Very cohesive, more a movement than a brand. (Though again, good to know your Boards of Canada going in ;) )

Ah Leyland Kirby ... For a long time, his music best described my mental state in the 2010s. It was so good that I was convinced I could never make music myself ever again. Interestingly enough, when We, so tired came out, it also helped describe my mental state, in particular the tracks “Collected light”, “Solid mentality” (which you used in your background) and “Tinseltown”. But it was also the same time when I started my deep dive in the whole vapour scene, which would in turn help me get my own music making groove and thus become キラヨシ. But I want to add that I actually wrote to him back then and even expressed my own doubts. He did respond and, thankfully, encouraged me in a way that made sense to me years later. So in a way, this was an example - and thankfully there has been and will be more like it - where I approach an artist as a fellow peer and there’s great comfort to know there are other artists out there who struggling to make sense of things too. P.S. I have to revisit my Bandcamp wishlist because it has reached critical mass 😁

Something I remembered while you were talking about time was that in one history lesson our teacher was teaching about the indrustial revolution and specifically about trains. For the sake of clarity I don't live in the USA or UK so I got a different point of view but I think that this still stands: our teacher said "then humans started to be the slaves of time" because now the time of traveling wouldn't be measured in days but in hours and minutes. If you wanted to board the train, you had to be on time. Clocks were becoming more common in homes and slowly but surely specific times took over the home. 5 AM get water from well, 6 AM make breakfest, 9 AM feed the horses etc.

Interesting fun fact about We, So Tired Of All The Darkness In Our Lives: The title itself is taken from the 2nd verse of Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out". The same was done with We Drink To Forget The Coming Storm, which was taken from the 2nd verse of Ultravox's "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" Leyland has done this with song titles in his work. Not just A1 and C3 of Everywhere At The End Of Time Stage 1 & 2 respectively, but also some of his solo work and V/Vm's Sometimes, Good Things Happen in 2003.

LOL I love my anthony fantano, he was one of my biggest inspirations when starting the channel and just the way he narrates through a video, he's extremely great at what he does. I tried to develop a different style, something more anecdotal, imaginative and just explorative :)

congrats on 100k subs! i highly recommend eartheater's album irisiri for more stuff reminiscent of LEYA, the duo has worked with eartheater before and it's clear that they influence each other musically. eartheater's latest release phoenix is also worth checking out, it's one of my favorite albums of the year and contains some of the most haunting, captivating soundscapes i've ever heard

@@PadChennington not only am I an achieved player my self but I collect albums of old harmonica trio bands like the Harmonicats...I’m in the process of making a new album (cassette!) for my label, and I have basically unlimited studio time at a place here. While working on my usual blues/garage styles I’m going to bring in my old records and see how they can be bent, folded and manipulated into beautiful soothing vaporwave. I’m a fifty year old punk rock blues musician and I hold you sir, personally responsible for learning about the genres you discuss. I feel like I’ve just straight missed a ton of amazing stuff. I find the VW scene to be a great deal like the punk rock culture I grew up in. Thanks for teaching an old dog new tricks Pad! I appreciate you man. You make great music as well as all that! Cheers man🎇

would love for you to do a video on sewerslvt. she’s really fantastic but it’s also really awesome to see an artist getting big from my home state of South Australia.

I'd love to hear what you think of the album Death Metal by Panchiko, it has an interesting story behind it that may or may not be real, and it'd be interesting to hear your opinions. Anyway, love your work Pad, congrats on hitting 100k!

Almost did a shameless plug for my own shitpost bandcamp page but I stopped myself lmao. I love these types of videos since I'm at a place in my music listening journey where I can't really find new music. It's just the same revolving door of artists and tracks. You've helped me to find some awesome music that has really inspired me to keep creating. Thanks ;)

Today I learned that I've been into signalwave without even knowing it was a thing! Well now that I know it has a name, I can probably find more in that genre now. Also Pad - I discovered your channel a few months ago after listening to Everywhere at The End of Time (someone in the comments mentioned a video you made on disturbing albums where EATOT was number one). Since then I've learned about so many strange music genres thag I don't even know where to start! Your channel has inspired me a lot, in both my taste in music and my drawings. So yeah I hope more people discover your channel!

the last concert I saw before the lockdown was LEYA. I saw them live and literally 2 days later the lockdown began. it was mindblowing and in retrospect it felt like such a prescient moment

As a music maker and listener, the thing that adds the most intrigue and unsettling vibes is the feeling that most of these albums don’t have my best interest at heart. It’s like taking a new path home from work late at night so you’re unsure and consistently looking over your shoulder. Still very interesting!
