Wind in the Willows wouldn't have been quite the same without Michael Hordern as Badger either

I feel so as well. I still miss the time when children's programmes were for the Child inside us all, and were respectful of our humanity's playfulness. Sir Michael Hordern who narrates Michael Bond's books so lovingly here also played Gandalf in the BBC radio play of The Lord Of The Rings. A classically trained stage actor from the National Theatre tradition in Britain, he also played Badger in the Cosgrove production of Wind In The Willows. :)

Good Lord, Sir Michael Hordern was talented. He portrayed everyone from an earnest little bear, to a Hungarian shopkeeper, to a bad-tempered neighbor, to a Cockney cabdriver...just amazing! Sir Michael was once quoted as saying that he got more recognition for the Paddington shorts than he ever did for his Shakespearean work...and liked that just fine. (And don't you just love the fact that everyone is just so matter-of-fact about a three-and-a-half-foot-tall talking bear? "Bears is sixpence extra," as if it were a normal occurrence.)

I remember my mom reading the Paddington Bear books to me when I was little. My brother had the whole set. They never showed the cartoon in the U.S., but I did see some of it when I was in England in 1988. I thought it was done in a weird way. Paddington himself was a stop-and-go action figure while the rest was drawn. It's also read by just one man instead of different people doing the voices.

I lived in England in the early 80's. I loved the show. Especially the one where Paddington is on the train and says "they were running out of fish so the chef had to step on it" and the passengers all scream at the chef.

I came here straight after watching a video clip of refugees from Syria arriving in Munich railway station. I had to see Paddington and recall how I came to know that helping refugees is intrinsically the right thing to do. Thank you Paddington, Mr Gruber, and the Browns. Even Mr Curry! I owe you all!

Sooo cute. Always loved this version although it looks slightly dated. I had the lampshade with this version on. I only knew Michael Horden is the Grumpy old badger from wind in the willows who was always so sensible and telling toad to behave or that he was not allowed to have fireworks.......Toad was slightly mental.....Like me.

Aw, I liked that one too. It may not have been up to this one but it was very charming and the voice talent was terrific--especially the guy voicing Paddington. The REALLY awful animated version was the short-lived Hanna-Barbera version that ran a couple years before the Cinar one. It threw in an American cousin for the Browns and, worst of all, made Paddington sound like the offspring of Truman Capote and a Munchkin. (Charlie Adler was a great Buster Bunny but a lousy Paddington.) Its only saving grace was that Mr. Curry was voiced by...Mr. Curry. (Tim, that is.)

I'm 41. I feel like a fossil. I go to people which I presume to be around my age and they never have any clue what I am talking about. They are around 30 and they don't know about fraggle rock fawlty towers who Frank Spencer Victor meldrew is or even who Hyacinth Bucket is! It's sad that they have missed out. It's sad that all my brilliant impersonations of these charavmcters people are completly wasted on people. I mention my royal doulton tea service with hand painted perywinkles and people look at me like I'm mental. I am of course it that's not the point!

Wait till YOU get to 41. All the technology will have changed younger people will be even fatter and more unscoiable. The world changes so quickly and before you know it you will be saying I remember when starburst were called opal fruits and when I was young. We used to say......DURING THE WAR.......Like uncle Albert everytime my dad tried to speak. But thanks to the world changing I start telling people I remember half pennies.......or mention being born the same year as star wars came out and the looks you get from dismissive youngsters that say.......ALRIGHT GRANDAD NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT THE DARK AGES.......then YOU will feel worse. I of course will probably be dead by then. Always listen to offer people.....even if they repeat themselves of you don't believe them when they say......you will be old one day. It's true you probably will and when it's too late you will wish you made more time to hear their stories. I work in a care home and always make time for tea and chats......learned so much. I have more in common with 85 year olds than I do with 20 year olds. Respect the older generation one day you will BE the older generation!

Paddington: Good afternoon, can I help you? *pointed by a gun by the authorities.* Err... No need to be violent now! What's the problem? Authorities: You have been charged for being both an 'Illegal Immigrant'' and a talking bear! The sentence is Re-exportation! *You cut to Paddington back in darkest Peru, visiting his Aunt Lucy.* Aunt Lucy: So, how was your immigration dear? Paddington: Terrible! Next time I'm heading to America. At least 'THEIR' borders are open, thanks to Mr Obama.

I was greatly disappointed with the film adaption of Paddington. *sarcasm.* While American kids get taught the virtues of cultural diversity via Sesame Street, British kids were being taught good manners, and social graces, or how not to be bad mannered by Paddington. Who do you think is better off?
