Thanks Robert - OC1 Remount demos are much appreciated. It is probably obvious, but worth mentioning that in high wind you will need to hold on to your paddle or stick it under bungee if you don't want to lose it - and practice as if that is the case - so as you say - that version of your technique is familiar and reliable (Since we downwind in fairly strong wind that is the only way I practice my remounts). Also worth mentioning - that OC1 you are demoing in is relatively quite low sided (lower volume). It will probably make remounts easier for some folks, but they should be aware of the differences with a higher volume OC (or any other differences in OCs) and if needed consider rentals or borrowed OCs and the importance of practicing remounts with any OC you have not practiced in.

True! I need a follow up with a little more safety protocols. This one pointed to true first timers practicing in a controlled environment.

Great vid! I'm just a novice, but would add one tip: Never let go of your paddle IMHO. If the wind catches it, it could be bad. 🤙🏽

Gahhh I knew I forgot something. I swim under. Disconnect it, pull the cord over the top reattach it.... then flip/remount...

@@K2NOPS isn't it a bit risky to disconnect the leash if you're in high wind/swell? is there a way to make it safer?

If your leash is long enough you can remount normally and the leash will be wrapped under the hull. In the cockpit undo the leash and pull it around there. With a short leash it will prevent you from remounting so you have to disconnect in the water or remount on the right side.

Will you be able to provide ideas on best method to flip the OC-1 when there is a current? I am newer and had no problems the first time I Huli'd in my canal, but flipped again and the current kept throwing the boat perpendicular to the water (canal) and I could not right the boat for a bit. I finally pointed the bow into the incoming current and was able to reach over the hull to use my body while grabbing the front Ama. I wear a paddle vest and that made it harder to jump on the hull to flip. I clearly need to practice this so I can be better overall! I have a Draco and I think my hull is higher up as the other comment mentioned. I also eventually secured my paddle on the boat to have to free arms and full body. I had no issue getting in with the more "successful" method you show and as I was trained. I was also not able to right the boat while between the Ama and hull due the current.

@JMFlemington pointing the nose into the current/wind/waves definitely makes it easier to reach over the hull. If forces push the canoe into you it'll be tougher than if the forces are neutralized or pushing the hull away from you. Having the boat oriented where the current is pushing it away from you is more dangerous in the event of a leash failure.

@@K2NOPS Thank you very much! I will get a friend to be with me and practice this so it's an automatic response. I got nervous and that zapped my strength until I took some deep breaths to just think clearly as I was floating. I really appreciate your reply!

I would not let go of the paddle, if it’s windy

@pedroforonda great point! I pinned a comment pointing that out. This is purely for first timers in flatwater more so than any additional hurdles... future video will go over assessing conditions and making adjustments.
