In the midst of planning 2 trips for next year. I'm even going out to scout one of the rivers tomorrow! Although my paddling season is not quite over yet, I'm already looking forward to next year!

Great tips - for paddling all year. Here in the PNW, even summer trips require emergency kits that include headlamps, spare clothing (at least base layers), and the ability to stay overnight. Weather changes, an injury, etc always means we need to be prepared. We do carry more/warmer clothes in a dry bag. Same with float plans, dressing for a swim, etc.

Drifting down a creek this time last year, enjoying the slow yellow rain of birch leaves... bliss. Need to get out there and do that again.

I really love this channel. Today I just found a great Fall deal on some cross bars for my SUV so I can mount some kayaks. I haven't paddled since I was a boy scout many many years ago. Did a few lakes and a little white water in CO. It was so much fun and every year goes by without getting back out on the water. I found your videos very helpful and now that I live in the Midwest where there actually is Fall season I can't wait to get a kayak and get out there before winter comes around! Thanks for taking your time to make these videos.

Take it easy Ken, you will be back on the water main thing is to heal. I told you about my situation that happened to me last May. Just am finishing my first kayak trip since I hurt myself now and still hurt a bit. 6:07

I need to plan mine trips. For the last two summers now my Isle Switch has sat in it's box. Seems like one day it's June 1st and the next day is Sept 1! Good advice, I think not planning a trip has been a big part of the issue. Thank you!

Thanks for the tips! Hope your shoulder is on the mend ok. Mine is in progress, so tempting on these beautiful days to get in a short paddle…. But I know better than to set myself back.

I dropped some big coin on NRS gear this year. I think that's the shirt I bought and I loved it. I didn't need all of the gear but was glad I had it. We did a great September camping kayak trip and hope to do it again next year with more people and double the wimpy mileage. Already got some new gear for next year planned.

You gonna pedal instead of paddle?
@PaddleTV2 ай бұрын
Probably not, because I’m really worried about hurting myself even more with everything else involved with pedaling- getting to the water, getting in and out, transporting the boat…. I just can’t afford a set back. I’m going to keep hiking to stay safe. :)

Ken, I wish you would review some pedal drive stuff while you rehab your shoulder. I actually contacted H2 Pro Ped about their universal pedal drive kit on on your behalf. I hope they will send you one for review!!

Great video Ken. I spent 18 months planning my Scotland kayak camping trip, and from the minute I hit Scotland everything went wrong. No more planning for me, from now on I just pack my bags and the kayak can go in search of water. Still looks like some other Ken with all the bugs about.

:). That works too. Sounds like you don’t need to commit early to ensure you make it happen. :)

It is much more comfortable wearing a drysuit in this cooler weather; whereas, on a hot day you'll cook in it.

I love paddling in the dark on the river. Just going by the ambient light when there is any, i.e. light pollution. Very rarely ever use a head torch. Clear moon light nights are the best.
