I used to get high on this in Amsterdam - I'd 17 speakers in series around the wee apartment on Albert Cuype - Igor my rattlesnake used to come and wrap himself around my neck and we'd just chill - BLISS!! Oh what fond memories. Ironically because I knew Paddy so well, I would have thought him the LAST fiddle player in our group of fiddlers to even consider something SO far out. Well done Paddy - hero!

My favourite version of Rodney’s Glory. I love this tune.

Agree. It's the tune I remember most from the many good tunes on this album.

@@dorasneddon774 I discovered the tune and the album through Hands - episode 11 - Cavan Cabinet Makers :D Great docu-series, if you want to watch the Ireland of bygone days and craftmanship.

Bought this in the early 80's and it was so full on new ideas on Irish traditional music it just blew me away. Listened to Paddy Glackin on the radio on Sunday and decided to have a listen after many years - oh my god what an album that will never get old

An absolutely amazing recording. So much ahead of it's time.. A classic, thanks for posting.. what a shame Jolyon passed away at an early age, he had so much to give.....🎹 🎵

This is a landmark album, its influence is vast., but, it seems to me, sadly under-acknowledged I remember a friend finding it in a basket of budget records in a supermarket, but the album sleeve was changed and it was presented as "Popular Irish Melodies" or something else utterly banal. It would be great to see some of the new generation of wunderkinder having a go at resetting this collection. Sincere thanks for putting it on. RIP Jolyon JKackson.

Thats where I found it as well "The Best Of Irish Jigs And Reels . Part 2" I found Part 1too. It was Noel Hill and Tony Linnane . Another fabulous recording. I bought On Hidden Ground over and over again for about £2 or £3 a go wherever I encountered it to pass on to my friends . A most under-appreciated recording . Its as fresh and new today as it was when first released. Absolutely unique .

@@eisirt55 That's were I got my cassette copy too, through at least with the original cover. Sadly it went to the great tape deck in the sky having been chewed up by the car cassette player. Irish Trad often can be put into three categories: De Danann, something produced by Donal Lunny, or something produced by someone desperately trying to sound like a Donal Lunny production. This stood out like a beacon however.

Like vertually everyone commenting on this post I've been lookings for a copy of this album for the past 45 or so years. To the best of my knowledge, it was never rereleased as a CD. One of the truly great Celtic album's with vibrant alternative instrumentals where Joylon Jackson so excells.

First time hearing this in 2022. Can’t believe I missed this one up to now. I hope more people discover it because it seems a bit underacknowleged for what it is.

I'm so happy to have been reacquainted with this album again. Haven't heard it in years. Not sure when this came out but I remember it getting airplay on local radio station (probably Fordham). 51 now and it still feels new. Great music never gets old. Thanks!

I used to have a cassette called Best of Irish Jigs and Reels part 2. Found it in the bagain bin in a music shop. What a find! I bought numerous copies over the years because I kept giving it away. Took years to discover the title of the original album.. it's probably my all time favourite .

Still have the vinyl copy I bought in Sligo in 1981 (I think) don’t know why I bought it because I knew nothing about them - I went solely by the cover. Who said you can’t judge a book……etc. It is totally amazing.

Thanks for that ! I have a copy of the cassette version . Unfortunately Tara, in their wisdom, didn't include the credits on the cassette sleeve ( they obviously couldn't print on both sides of the paper .... ) . Typical that this, the most psychedelic Irish album ever, was not released on CD . Even the record company couldn't dig it ! I have just discovered Hidden Ground The Story of Jolyon Jackson , on Soundcloud , so thanks again !
