This was on Navara's LP "Cello Colors," which I bought around 1960. It was one of my favorite recordings. Sadly, my ex-wife kept it when we split--and I've never been able to buy a replacement copy. Too bad it is not available as a CD.

Yes this version is invaluable in that the right wrist is more often visible. Please keep it available.

Wow, some bow technique ! ! ! I love that little flick when he takes his bow off the string. There is strangely little movement above the elbow (tho the upper arm is obviously engaged). I don't understand why people are excited about the wrist - it looks like a wrist to me. I see him using the fingers of the right hand in a remarkable way. A slightly supinated bow hold, really interesting.

Don´t you feel that intonation is often on the sharp side?

It was Quite common (back in theday) to turn a bit higher than the Piano.

@Garlos888 how can you hate on Navarra? You spelled Navarra wrong btw. He is a legend, a true legendary player. I really dont think you can criticize him unless you can play the second variation exactly like he can.

Lets hear them to see how close they get to the right intonation. I have absolute pitch and I would not dare to say such thing about such a great artist and musician as Navarra is.

很完美 但倒數第二個音應該要高八度比較好
@jmrozendaal16 жыл бұрын
It's too bad that the pianist plays under the pitch of the 'cellist throughout.
@alvarobitran4 жыл бұрын
John Mark Rozendaal I think is the other way around: the cellist is often sharp with intonation, despite being a fabulous Master. There is nothing the piano can do about it.

It is ok to criticize the masters. How else can we improve upon their work.
@C0urante15 жыл бұрын
I like it and all, but I think that putting vibrato on false harmonics is just overdoing it.
@Garlos88813 жыл бұрын
It's a music based on the vocal type,so you must "sing" fantastic enough with your instrument. I don't think Navara's "singing" is touchy,just too fluently, I must say.....
@violaplayer199516 жыл бұрын
SHUT UP! what is wrong with shaking his head. he feels the music. he'll play better than you will in your lifetime!
@tonyvillamotte43397 жыл бұрын
Not as good as Feuermann, who had as good a bow technique as Navarra and, unlike Navarra, was able to play in tune.

Tony Villamotte navarra is in tune...
@assindiastignani50157 жыл бұрын
Oh dear. Even if I thought that, I would never write such a thing. In this live performance, he misses the one or the other note, but Navarra not able to play in tune? It certainly takes chuzpah to say that.
