SessionStorage is actually a useful API if you want to store some form value between multiple pages without using expiring cookies or keeping the app state after a reload. If you have your app cached (offline version) and you short lived state in a SessionStorage, you should even be able to show the tab again (even if it was discarded) in any circumstances. It can be useful if your page is showing a receipt or confirmation message after a successful payment or in response to a form.

When the browser has gone from frozen to discarded, you could say the browser "let it go"
