Here's a strange coincidence you might have missed out on: In 2003, a Central American country (Panama) hosted the pageant for the second time (the first being in 1986). The host delegate placed, and the eventual winner was a delegate from a Latin American country that has never entered the top 5 before, let alone won Miss Universe (Dominican Republic). Fast forward 20 years later, and a Central American country (El Salvador) hosted the pageant for the second time (the first being in 1975). The host delegate placed, and the eventual winner was a delegate from a Latin American country that has never entered the top 5 before, let alone won Miss Universe (Nicaragua). It's fascinating how history likes to repeat itself in the most subtle ways. 😅 Great video, as always! ❤

Who knew cold, sober facts and numbers could be equally entertaining in pageantry? Giving in to drama and speculation is the bread and butter of most pageant sites but the TPN brand always delivers indisputable information you can rely on. A suggestion for a future episode: A breakdown of the lineup of judges (and their nationalities) per year and if there is a correlation between which delegates eventually score high and advance. It would be intriguing to track whether national pride or biases play a part in the selection process - or not.

Thanks, Alexis! Glad you enjoy the stats and nerdy stuff too. I couldn’t resist mentioning El Tocuyo - I really think they do a great job of respectfully celebrating this “achievement”, so much so that their 2021 winner so publicly promoted it and even attended a coronation ceremony. It’s done with a lot of care, and humour at the same time.

My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it. El Tocuyo is the hometown of Miss Venezuela 2015, Mariam Habach, who competed in Miss Universe 2016 and despite being a huge favourite ended up not placing. After her very energetic introduction mentioning “El Tocuyo, Venezuelaaaaaaaa”, Mariam’s non-placement led to an existing award named after Ruth Ocumárez being renamed El Tocuyo to recognise the most hyped delegate at MU each year that fails to place.
@alloallie Жыл бұрын
El Tocuyo is named after the hometown of MU Venezuela 2016 Mariam Habach, a candidate most pageant fans had on their list but ended up unplaced. Basically, every year, the award is "given" to the candidate whose unplacement was the biggest shock/the unplaced candidate most fans think did the best.

Roger, have you ever thought of sending one of your episodes to MUO and pitching the nerdy facts as a commentary element of the telecast? I must admit you would be a huge hit world-wide, and it would add an exciting element to the telecast. Food for thought. Historic Miss Universe season yet still discussion on placements going on. I continue to support our new Miss Universe and I support the queen who I was cheering for as well and following her lead by keeping my mouth shut and continuing to support ALL the contestants. So enjoyed this episode and wishing you and yours a restful and happy holiday season filled with joy and love. Thank you for the content and see you soon. XO Joseph from the US
@PageantNerd Жыл бұрын
Hi Joseph! You know what, I used to harbour this fantasy (actually before I was TPN) that I would work for the MUO one day running their website or doing their marketing (basically my day job skills!). It’s funny that there have been a few people in the past few years since I’ve been doing this that say I should get my content in front of them. While I really can’t speak from any direct experience of dealing with the MUO (apart from them very kindly granting me media access to all their images for MU23), I tend to think they appreciate the fans, but don’t necessarily see any legitimate value to their operations, no matter how much time we as fans devote to their product and in many cases know more than some of their staff (I received an email from MU after the recent pageant that introduced our new Miss Universe as Sheynnis Palacio (not Palacios!). So, as the saying goes, “never meet your heroes”, I tend to think I should keep that fantasy just as it is, and not burst that bubble of thinking that maybe one day, they’ll come to their senses and hire me! I really would love to attend a pageant in-person one day - and maybe Mexico 2024 is the year - so I guess “never say never”! Always great to hear from you… and yes, I too have decided to keep my mouth shut about current controversies 😇 All the very best to you and your loved ones over the festive season. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, too! TPN x

I have decided to ignore you and continue to visualize you as a commentator for the 73rd Miss Universe. I see it this way, I am at my sister's enjoying pizza and wine with her, and my husband and you appear in a box say at the left of the screen giving stats on one of the contestants who has just placed. In New Jersey you hear me screaming at the top of my lungs saying that is my friend Roger, OMG that is my friend Roger. We love your work end of statement. Again, happy holidays to you and yours. XO Joseph from the US

@@josephcantelmo8687 I think we need commentators that actually elevate and give respectability to the pageant like the old days, now the hosts and commentators are just blabbing out inane nonsense and every once in awhile they would toss out a nugget of interesting fact or trivia.
@josephcantelmo8687 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, now adays the cost of running the pageant becomes so high that Catriona and Zuki really spent most of their time hawking new shows on the network. I think Roger would be an amazing addition to the MU organization but alas I am merely just a fan! I still think for the fan's finals night is still exciting and worth the wait. I can't believe Miss Universe season is already over. I like it when it's in late December or even January, so we get a full year of content before the new Miss Universe is crowned.

Based on my simple statistics, you need to watch out for BC = Brazil and Colombia, 4P’s = Peru, Puerto Rico and Philippines (sometimes Paraguay). Two I’s = India and Indonesia. The last ones are definitely not the least - South Africa, Thailand, USA, Venezuela, Vietnam. Recently the Asians are forces to be reckoned with! ❤ If the Europeans would send their candidates to the Philippines, I’m sure that they would place soon! The best gowns are also from Filipino designers.

@PungiFungi Жыл бұрын
Yes, the BC, the 4Ps and the STUVs. And about the Europeans, this year. not many of them even tried, like they had given up before it even began. Too many of them inconsistent. I saw Poland during the top 10 evening gown and wondered why she didn't look like that during the preliminaries. I wish the pageant was not dominated by any one group. In the past, the Europeans take most of the spots in the semi-finals, now they barely registered. This year the only two who made the cut was a biological man and a representative who is also half African. The Latin American delegates I have to admit is the only overall consistent group in the pageant's history.

Such interesting facts and statistics. Love your presentation and format. Do you by any chance have any insight whether MU 2001 Oxana Federova actually quit or was she asked to resign ? I have rumors that she was flustered and embarrassed by the questions posed by Howard Stern in a radio interview and nobody came to her rescue. Some said she wanted to finish school. Like as if she did not know of her obligations if she won. I listened to that interview and those questions were so sexist and disrespectful.

That was shown on Stern's E! Channel and after the interview, Oxana was asked by one of Stern's staff what she thought about the sexual questions Howard asked her and was she offended. She smiled and said at least she was laughing and smiling. Handled it like a true Miss Universe, being poise and not bothered by rude people.

It’s amazing how you are able to do extensive research for your videos. I only research the contestants who are competing in the current year. With that said The Philippines - Michelle Marquez Dee was the most qualified and prepared candidate to win Miss Universe this year and gave a performance that also warrants a Top 5 placement. The entire world knows that if Michelle was in the Top 5 as she deserved to be, she would have destroyed the other 4 contestants in the Q&A, especially with those Generic answers in to response to very basic questions. If the judging was fair, the final placement should have been: The Philippines - Miss Universe Nicaragua - 1st Runner-up Thailand - 2nd Runner-up Australia - 3rd Runner-up Colombia - 4th Runner -up. These are my facts.
