Beautiful, wonderful music, wise and peaceful, a nice oriental feel. Another author to look into. Thank you.

Yes, you get a sense that this is music by a man who wouldn't hurt a fly. Music by an exquisitely soft soul - that likes to soar and have fun. : )

Apparently this piece is famous - at least in Japan. But I'd never heard it - and for sure it deserves to be better known! : D

the title should be: Haru no Umi (the Sea the spring time)

琴と尺八に比べると角が取れて柔らかいですね。 このバージョン好きです。 ありがとうございます。

A beautiful piece. I have begun learning it myself, inspired by this video and also by a recording for its original instrumentation, shakuhachi and koto: /watch?v=M0qM5zrWock. Also, note to uploader: the correct spelling of the title is Haru* no Umi. Thank you for sharing this video with us, and for the information you provide in the description.

I bet it's a beautiful one. : D

Shakuhachi! I wrote a paper on the shakuhachi flute once. Is there a version you know of that uses the original instrumentation? This is nice, but I think it would sound better on the traditional instruments.

Where would I be able to purchase the sheet music for this for flute and piano or harp? I haven’t been able to find a book to buy except for a flute trio. I would love to play this gorgeous piece so if u know where to buy it please tell me!

What a nice work! As Rolando suggests below, it has an oriental touch, but if I'm not totally mistaken this is mixed with a bit of Scottish music... :D
@segovianity7 жыл бұрын
Not a mixture, but much Scottish, and Japanese, music use the 'pentatonic' scale.
@tarmonlouis59126 жыл бұрын
@@segovianity I don't hear the Scottish.... isn't this literally a japanese piece??
@segovianity6 жыл бұрын
Yes - I simply referred to the use of pentatonic scales in both traditions, which are subjected to different melodic formations, rhythms etc. and this is clearly of the Japanese genre.
@tarmonlouis59126 жыл бұрын
@@segovianity Well scottish/celtic music is not usually pentatonic... the most common modes used are dorian, mixolydian and aeolian :) whereas traditional Japanese is usually pentatonic. It's all beautiful though.. I love folk and folk-inspired music!

Of course, it depends how far back you go in history, e.g. the effect of Italian composers working in Edinburgh during the time of Robert Burns, or how far away from the urban centres one ventures etc.

I've been meaning to upload some shakuhachi music on my world music channel. As for a traditional rendition of this piece - here's one: _ylh0C5Wsog

It's a shame this is played on a transverse flute...but what can one expect from a player of the Western tradition...
