I very much enjoyed this video as well. Back in 1990, when I worked as a driver for Maui Downhill, we would begin the downhill bicycle tour at the 9,745 foot elevation point, just below the summit and end up at sea level in the town of Paia.

Aloha and many Thanks. Yes, this is a cute, fun little town to walk around. Also, go a bit north to Ho'okipa Beach and maybe further out to Twin Falls. Those are good places, too. Then consider going up Baldwin to our Paniolo (Cowboy) town of Makawao. Lots to do for a half day. There's some really good places to eat in Paia, too. It looks nothing like Paia of the 70's and 80's. That's when there were really good local restaurants. Larry's for an example. Best spareribs and rice. Nagata's Store, Economy Market, the Houriuchi market. And a local favorite for the guys the Pool Hall. Charlie's is still there I see. Seems like not many locals walking around on the streets, mostly tourists

I'm very familiar with Paia, it is perfect for a hippie like me :) that taco place is brand new, I believe they just opened on December. by the way, if you walk inside San Lorenzo Bikini (next to Ululani Shave Ice) there is a small Cafe / Restaurant with an open stage and DJ or Live Music called "Paia Bay Coffee". and you missed "Paia Bowls" as well (little bit on your left across from your parking lot / gas station), a really cool place! The Hana Picnic Lunch Co. used to be highly visible, but they moved and are a bit harder to find. Also, to my thinking, they are on the wrong side of the road in Paia Town. LOL. I visited Paia in the 80's while living on a communal farm in the counrtyside. I loved it and you displayed the town's charms very well. I have a question you may not know but I have not been able to find out this information in other ways. The farm I stayed on had a large Hari Chrishna temple on it. It was no longer used by the sect but was still in beautiful condition and used as a dorm for visitors. Do you know of it or its whereabouts? I would love to visit Paia again someday and see the temple. To help, there was an old cinder cone or hill near the farm. You could see for miles from there.
