I kind of agree with you here Arch. The JLC is the better of two. That said, the Cartier Tank is an absolute ICON! Even non watch heads would recognize a Tank as it is such a classic.

Again completely predictable answer. JLC might be horologically superior but cartier is a style and design icon. Personally I would get a solid gold tank francaise on the used market.

Quite right, Cartier pioneered the rectangular shaped watch face and the concept of wristwatch itself. I always thought the Tank looked more elegant than the Reverso. As much as I like JLC as a brand, something about the design of the Reverso doesn't look quite right. Anyway, only people with no knowledge of watch history would dismiss Cartier as just a fashion brand.

Depends on who you want to impress. The Cartier is more stylish and will impress women. The JLC will impress watch geeks. Unfortunately, most watch geeks are men. The Cartier's probably a lot cheaper as well, so I'd get the Cartier and save myself $$$.

I only buy watches to one celebrate personal achievements and two because i love the history and horology behind them . This dude I was the most obvious watch in the world in a Rolex and then he drunk buys a Breitling... nothing wrong with either of those things but Cartier seems like a way better choice for him. He's obviously just enjoying having fancy stuff at this point in his life in general and can get the Cartier tank which is absolutely classic and actually holds value on a second-hand market for half the price of the reverso. Plus, the Cartier is already gentleman old school faffy enough. The reverso is a pretty dainty little thing and 99% of people don't live a life where it doesn't look ridiculous. This is all just my opinion of course and who really cares anyway.
