Not African men, it is mainly Igbo men. The girl's families are greedy, they charge the groom so much, reason why most Igbo men are I their late 30s before they can even think of marriage. Then all that resentment is unleashed on the wife, when there is even a small altercation.

Then wife fears shame from her family if she walks out of her martial home especially if there is a bride price been paid. Older generation they say wife must respect her husband after bride price been paid and yet they tell her husband in a joking way “love your wife very much for she will give you a child bearing and cook for you etc”. Nowadays, in some African countries, bride price is more of a business gain to girl’s family. 😳

I grew up in an abusive home and no matter how many times I say to myself that I'm ok now thatvim grown up it's still heart breaking everytime I come across stories like this. I think that it's high time we sit down and talk to the elders and say I'm not just a person to marry off through bride price or lobola and that constitute my value to the man , it's easy to say she can just leave but they left no foundation for most us women to land on if we face abuse in our relationships. It's not fair what we go through 😭😭 we are people too , we matter , we have value. God didn't create us to be punching bags. Water us with love and kindness and we will bare fruit for every season
