Are you looking for a pain free golf swing that is easier on your back? The Single Plane Swing reduces stress on the back by reducing the shear often created by a conventional golf swing.
The Problem
When you hang the arms below the shoulders, the Conventional golf swing has a spatial problem between you and the ball. In other words, you are too close to the ball. Because you are standing too close, you must lift your body to make room for the arms to move through impact. To do this you must lift the body by straightening the lead leg. As you lift, and move down to strike the ball at the same time, you are compressing the back and causing shear as you turn.
The Single Plane Solution
The Single plane golf swing addresses the ball on the same plane as impact and reduces stress from the lower back by moving the body down into a flexed lead knee. Because of this, the head moves down an equal distance eliminating compression and shear on the lower back.

Gave up golf for 15 years because of a bad back. 8 years of retirement golf with back pain a major issue (hard to finish 18, ice and pills needed after, more chiro visits etc.). Covid confinement after my first 5 games of the season led me to the SPS and since then, 40 games in and no back pain, no ice and no pills! Not only can I play 27 holes now, I can do yard work after my morning games! Thanks Todd for giving me back ... my back and my golf.

More like a violin teacher and less like a soccer coach. Good check point- body over lead leg. Good check point. Tension felt in gluts quadriceps. Sanborn5 quadriceps. Add to this that most seniors do not do any back extensions, use a Universal glute/quad/ adduction/ abduction machine. Muscular and tendon /connective tissue strength is built with slow motion lifts at a percentage of that exercises one rep max. Sport specific power uses that strength to create a dynamic movement. This too is a specific phase of training. Odd thought: Fred Couples has that beautiful looking relaxed and free flowing reverse C swing. One day after a normal swing he fell down and could not move and didn’t know why. You just elegantly and simply explained the reason. Another tour de force video. People watch me at the range. I was down on the end hitting out of the rough with a steep uphill lie to a green. I was trying to figure out what loft to use. Not how to hit the ball. Suzuki violin practice on the range. All the best.

What a great golf swing. Left frame, at 5:44 or 5:51, right elbow bent just before impact is so good. Pelvis and shoulder clearance is excellent, literally hitting from the side of the body, like baseball or tennis. Left frame again, at 5:45 or 5:54, holding the finish, the trailing knee pointing on a line parallel to the target line. The "Shoulder replaces shoulder" is a drill everyone should practice. I use it to remind me to maintain forward spine angle, not raise up too soon in the follow through. It also gave me a 3-4 mph gain in speed, more consistent distance and ball flight. My big struggle is holding the angles so I can maintain forward shaft lean (dynamic loft) through impact. Right now my body is not in the correct position at impact, so I'm releasing the angles too soon resulting in my arms being straight at impact instead of after impact. This is creating an increase in loft instead of a decrease at impact, so spin rate is too high and the ball balloons up and loses distance. More work to be done, arrrrrg!

Does the single plane golf system require that you have same length clubs

The golf swings of Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, Joaquin Nieman...do you see the bad compression and increased shear? Many, or most, PGA Tour Players and LPGA Tour Players seem to have the same movement of the head going backwards as the arms pass through to impact.

To maintain the bend of the left knee on follow through, would opening up the left foot help? I need to find a swing that relieves stress on the right side of my back. Thanks

Hey Todd, I'm new to the single plane swing. FYI I've been a high handicap golfer but never had back pain from golf. Went to the driving range today, tried the single plane swing and experienced back soreness for the first time. Felt like the back adjustments by starting at a single plane at address, and creating the necessary spatial distance to the golf ball, added stress on the back after hitting a bucket of balls. Any thoughts on why this happened? Thx.

You might be standing too far from the ball or you have too much sidebend. I would need to see a video of your swing to be sure.

This is a tough one for me. I understand it it but I’ve been trying to keep my head from moving forward into impact. At the speed of the swing how do I hold back and release to end up over my front foot? That’s a tough one. I see he does this perfectly but will be hard for me I think.
