Speed Thrills, Speed Kills - Choose Wisely! The song is "Painkiller" by British thrash, metal, speed metal band Judas Priest. It was written by the band's vocalist Rob Halford and guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton for their 12th studio album also named 'Painkiller'. It was recorded at Miraval Studios in France and Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands between Jan - Mar 1990 and released on Sep 3, 1990. According to SongFacts, "The song is about The Painkiller, a personage created by Judas Priest. He is sent to the world to destroy evil and rescue mankind." The album cover depicts a cyborg superhero and the lyrics tell the story of that character. The song and album were well received by the metalhead community. The album also did well on the charts hitting #26 in the US and UK and a respectable #29 in Canada. It did best in Germany peaking at #7. The song however managed only #74 in the UK and did not chart in the US or Canada. This collab features Girish Pradhan on vocals and Manou Rao on guitars. According to Mike, Girish, "is one of India's most astonishing Rock voices. His band plays huge concerts in India, mainly Hard Rock Cover Shows. So Girish and Manou have performed together when Manou was still a child. Girish can sing ANYTHING. This is just one facet of what he is able to do. He also has some great showmanship to offer..." I had a chance to chat briefly with Manou and Sina - RO: How did you make contact with Sina to get involved in the "Painkiller" project? MANOU: One of Sina’s huge fans who has also been following me for some time had spoken to us about a potential collaboration with Sina. Since I turned 16 recently, my parents were now OK for me to be exposed on social media and my dad got in touch with Mike for a potential collaboration. I am really proud that my first exposure will be with Sina. RO: Do you play any other instruments and for how long? MANOU: The guitar is my main instrument. However, I do play a bit of piano and drums as well. RO: Is your family musical or was your aptitude a surprise for them? MANOU: Yes, I do come from a musical family; my grandmother is an Indian Classical musician. RO: Mike said your favourite band is Pink Floyd. That's a long way off from the thrash / speed metal style of Judas Priest. What other bands have been influential to you? What do you currently listen to? MANOU: Yes, although David Gilmour is my favourite guitarist, my early influences were driven by all forms of 70’s Rock spanning from Classic Rock to Hard Rock (Led Zeppelin/Deep Purple) to Metal (Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne). I currently listen to more progressive music like Dream Theater and Polyphia including a bit of Jazz Fusion. The choice of Painkiller was to give us all an interesting challenge and at the same time a song that gives space for the vocals, guitar and drums to truly express themselves. RO: When did you start playing guitar? Were you primarily self-taught or did you take lessons? MANOU: I started learning guitar at the age of 7 in India. I was lucky to be mentored by an amazing Indian guitarist, Tony Das, who has accompanied me through these early years. Since our family moved to France a few years back, I took Master classes to improve my technique and am currently Studying Music in the Montpellier Conservatory. RO: Is there is anything else that you'd like Sina's fans to know? MANOU: Sina is a huge inspiration to me with what she has achieved. In addition to being a fantastic drummer, she is a true professional and so humble. This is indeed an honour for me. From my side I would like to use music as a way to bridge or be a crossover between generations, geographies and genres. It is in this light that I soon plan to launch my own KZbin channel fully based on collaborations with different musicians across the globe using Rock as the base. RO: I know some of your fans will be surprised at the choice of a thrash / speed metal song since you'd stated you didn't like the genre. Was it imply for the challenge or some other reason? SINA: You are right about thrash metal, I still don't really like listening to this genre. Both Manou and I don't usually do metal, so this was outside of our comfort zone. We both wanted to accept the challenge, though. I'm really glad I did this, it took a lot of work to get it right, but I learned a lot. There will be more collaborations with Manou, but no metal! Now that sounds like good news to me!

The Priest is *not* a thrash nor speed metal band, just pure blend Heavy Metal. And Painkiller is likely to be in the top 10 metal songs of all time. Been waiting for this cover for a long time, and rightly so, for you really nailed it. Why so many people feel compelled to point out that it's "not their kind of music" as soon as they see the word "metal" is beyond me but never mind. Great job !

Yeah man. It just makes me think there's something stupid about you if you completely shut out an entire genre because you're afraid of the connotations associated with it. If it sounds good in your ears, then you're allowed to like it. Metal is real music, as is every derivative thereof. My whole childhood I was afraid to put on the music I liked in front of people for fear of someone saying "oh turn off this shouty shit!" or whatever but now I'm like nah fuck you. How about we turn off this radio friendly corporate bullshit and listen to some CHOONZ.

Sina, my gosh, Scott Travis would be proud of those fast feet of yours. Outstanding work on the guitars and the vocals were spot on. These days, Rob could never hit those notes but even in his prime I'll bet you could give him a run for his money. Did you guys do this without a bass player? Anyway, Kudos to you all. @@sina-drums I'm flattered that you replied and even answered my question. I know you are busy. Second, after re-listening to this, I do hear the bass and 'get' why he doesn't want to be seen. I've worked with many 'studio musicians' that are never seen and most never get listed credits for their work. Unsung heroes that just love what they do? Yep. I'm one of them. Very little of my Touring 'work' (12 years on the road) has my name attached to it. Usually the studio Engineer that remixes the live recordings into a usable format for publishing gets the credit. Weird considering that if I didn't do a good job live, NO amount of studio magic can turn crap into gold. I'm OK with that. However, I do have 9 framed Gold Albums on my wall from touring with the likes of Black Sabbath, Rush, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Heart, Dio, Rossington Collins Band and 2 others that escape me at the moment. Easy to see from my partial resume here that I'm a lot older than you now but we were all young once and I believe that music is not only timeless but ageless as well. Lastly, loved your cover of ZZ Top's La Grange. The drum part is a lot harder than it sounds. Don't get me started on what you were doing in the Tool 46 and 2 cover. I've been watching you for several years and have enjoyed your progression. Keep it up. Thanks for making all of this available for the rest of us to enjoy.

Hello Sina, again you have chosen a great masterpiece. As an absolute layman on the drums, I can only say absolute respect. With your great camera settings you can see what for there must be work and strength behind it. The coordination with both feet and hands at this speed, just top notch. Sina, Thank you for such doing such a great job on such a difficult song to both master and cover. Girish and Manou are amazing guys and I have a huge respect for them. Since you released this video I have since had a chance to see a lot of their videos on their channel. Girish is a powerhouse vocalist and Manou is a beast on guitar. Their original music is a harkening back to the true 80s to mid 90s style of metal that has hugely prevalent here in the U.S. for a long time before hip hop and corny digitized vocal pop took over the industry here. Sina, you say you're not big into the thrash/speed metal genre. That's it's not your cup of tea (so to say) but I feel that this genre is where you excel the most. Heavy metal is something I feel best suits you. I do love that you like sticking to your classic rock and jazz fusion, which you are more than amazing and ultra great at but you are a natural and fit in more in the metal genre. Truthfully I love everything you do and it brings me joy to see you performing what makes you happiest. By all means don't ever change anything that you feel identifies you. Keep doing great things of course. But don't give up on or discount the metal genre. I feel you are excellent for this. Wow Sina, metal may not be your thing or comfort zone but this is a powerful performance. Great vocals too. It’s been a long time since I attended a Judas Priest concert. All that missing here is you & Manou in leather, and perhaps you could have drove up to your kit on a powerful Bike ;). As for Manou, your latest featured artist, what a collaboration - Andrei better watch out. Now wouldn't that be something to see for your next collab, You, Mike, Rick and two leads guitars Andrei & Manou.

I don't really know much about Judas Priest at all. But this was awesome. It's great being able to hear a bunch of new musicians, because of Ms. Sina's awesome talents. Another fantastic collab. and a happy, HOLA, to Mr. Manou and Mr. Girish.

Magnificent, high speed drumming with hands and feets, Sina wherefrom take you the power and condition for such a hot rhythm ? I listen this song twice, and my ears and brain are fresh again.

Hi Sina, I am all caught up on ypur vlogs and im so glad you are happy and making lots of new friends and fitting in so well at college. I must admit i don't like the song this week but but Manou is an excellent guitar player and I can't get over your abilities i don't know how you do it to have all 4 of your limbs in motion at the same time i just love to watch you I never get tired of it. Thank you Sina and enjoy you weekend even though you will probably be busy for most of it.

Learned to play guitar I. The 80s metal like this was always a goal. There were a few hero's around and some from the 70s to mimic. The coolest part about metal from priest is that although it is loud it is clean. Distorted yet very articulate. There is no hiding mistakes.

Lots to love here. First of all...monster vocals Mr. Pradhan!...that is an amazingly difficult song to sing and you crushed it!!! Second...guitars....brilliantly done Mr. Rao. Just 16..awesome!! Great heavy tone and you nailed the feel and the solos were outstanding! Sina Drums. Great for the most part. It's a difficult song for sure. Structure wise you have that part down. There are just a couple of things that you can work on or change for future times you play this. :17 mark make sure the sextuplets are clean and end with even double kicks..that really helps offset the constant 16th notes you were playing just prior. 1:37 mark..when you play those fast snare groupings..make sure they are at the same volume and clarity you played the more open notes with. Try not to let the energy or volume decrease because you played more notes. It's easier to player louder when playing less notes...work on evening out all your fills so they have the same impact volume wise. 2:17 that break pattern is a bit rough..but you did a much better job the second time through..something to work on. You will nail it I am confident! 2:20 after the guitar sweeps...move your right hand quarter notes to the floor tom and thunder away for 8 bars until you nail beats 3 and 4 of the 8th bar then move to your hi hats. That creates great tension during that solo break and really makes the return to the main rhythm stick out. 4:00 THE fill of the song...triplets in the hands followed by triplets with the kicks only....super huge fill. Just work on cleaning that up and you will really nail it! 4:48 here is where the floor tom pattern returns. Pound quarter notes on that floor with your double kick going..adding the additional snare hits when he sings.."Pain, Pain, Killer, Killer..etc) into the final "KILLERRRR" then bring back the hi hats and thunder away until the ending! OUTSTANDING job everyone and it's joy to hear such classic material played so respectfully. (Yeah I am old..if you didn't know). Keep it up!

Judas Priest, nice! I prefer the older, British Steel, Priest, but I'll take it! You never cease to amaze me, Sina! Amazing double kick work! I have no idea how you can make both hands and both feet do different things like that!

Hi Sina, that was a bit of a change. I have to admit I thought I had the wrong KZbin channel on for a second😂😂 Seriously though, it was cool to see you step outside your as you put it "comfort zone". Even with a little change of pace you still manage to achieve awesomeness. Hope you are well, learning alot and having fun at Arnhem. ✌❤

Hey Sina, this was a really great cover! You inspired me to start learning music, I'm trying to learn the guitar, but it's hard since I'm self taught and I'm only learning throught tabs and tutorial on youtube. I always thought that I was too old for this (I'm 22 btw) but, I'm making some (really) slow progress, and watching your videos inspires me too keep learning. So, I really wanted to thank you for that :)
