Paint a loose Watercolour Sunset Seascape, Simple Watercolor Tutorial 3 Primaries and grey, Boats

/ loisdavidsonart www.etsy.com/uk/shop/OwlsAndF... - How I paint a simple wet in wet sky with big brushes handy hint here I use a different brush for each sunset colour so I can paint the wet in wet sky quickly without needing to wash out the big brushes between colour changes.
Materials: Saunders Waterford 100% cotton cold pressed NOT paper, 11" x 15"/28cm x 38cm, 90lb, but 140lb is probably better as it won't tend to buckle. I used Cotman tube paints in raw sienna, rose madder, prussian blue and paynes grey.

Having more time now that I'm retired I decided to put my late mother's art materials to use 3 months ago. Watching various videos I've settled on yours, as your paintings appeal to me, especially the seascapes. As a beginner, I would advise anyone starting out to stick with it. Out of about 20 efforts, I am really pleased with 4 and it is worth it.

I always seem to spot out one area on a painting that I like the most (on mine and the painting I watch on youtube) and on this painting I love the darker blue area in the sky and how it meets up with the light rose color just above the larger birds and the line of darker rose at the top right. This is fantastic, Lois. I love it. Not ending up with a green sky can be tricky. That faint headland in the background really set it off, and I can hear the birds! The flat brush is a godsend for details like the boats and the horizontal reflections. I don't have the courage to draw on the painting directly. I get my boats to my satisfaction on tracing paper first, and then scribble on the back to transfer them onto the painting. Anyway, thanks for another glorious sunset. :D
