I received a series D set of brushes yesterday as an early birthday gift and decided to give this a go for my 40K Dark Angels Raven Wing, which I've been adding for nearly 20years but never painting because I could never achieve the black look I wanted. First model out the gate is a biker with plasma gun so contemplating OSL for the coils which will also be new to me. Next thing to learn will be NMM to give a more satin look to the armour. Thanks!

I've always struggled with white cloth, whenever I try traditional layering or glazing it just comes out chalky with tidemarks instead of smooth transitions. I've wondered about drybrushing it in the past but haven't tried yet. A quick video using your technique would be interesting to see if you can get natural looking white cloth.

@saltedllama2759
@saltedllama2759 2 жыл бұрын
I have found that achieving a crisp, striking white is about painting it NOT white. Especially when going for the look on a competition-winning piece. What that means is, fall just short of white with a color that's easier to build up, such as a light grey or bone/off-white. That way you can glaze or edge highlight with pure white at the lightest points. It will read as white to the eye, and be far more visually interesting than just flat white. SIDE NOTE: The "chalkiness" is because white acrylic paint has larger pigment particles than any other color, so it responds with different surface tension. By mixing it with a color beneath white - again, such as a grey or off-white/bone - it will smooth it out and allow you to reserve pure white for the most sparkling spots of light. Also, don't start over a darker base because hours, days, or even weeks after you have completed it, evaporation and fading will continue to occur and the darker layers will show through the transparent layers. With a little proper glazing, there should be no tide marks. It's easier said than done, but it's about the ratio of dampness to paint in the brush, and always drawing towards the highlight spot (in the case of white).

I love your work. Thank you for these amazing tutorials! I would love to see some yellow drybrushing, specifically Imperial Fists. I find Yellow such a hard coulor paint and i would really like to see how you would use it in your drybrushing.

Painting leather could be an interesting video with a lot of application. Or maybe also osl with a space marine jump pack and the thrusters of said jump pack casting different light onto the marine maybe?

Great series! Always liked drybrushing, but your videos has opened my eyes to an even greater degree! I have an idea about painting squigs/squighoppers/boingrot bounders in an illuminated fashion, like they've eaten too much glowing mushrooms and gained that attribute themselves. Could ofc be done on other models instead, but would like to see your take on it either way!

A vid on painting yellow would be awesome. I’m thinking of starting an Imperial Fist army but alto of my friends have mentioned how difficult it is to get a decent yellow affect on the Space Marine armour. Love your work, stay safe 👍🏻
