I had a 79 TD Gemini Panelvan in 94 as a 2nd Year Plant Mechanic Apprentice. I loved it to bits, never failed to start in the dead cold night of winter instantly. Or the stifling 49DegC heat in summer. 5spd manual got me everywhere I chose, outback bush waterholes, or across town to mums for a coffee, or to the mine site for work. It was this colour you are talking about and I agree, beautiful.. I did some rallying in it and it taught me how to drive with feeling, because you all the feedback from the simplicity of the setup and 70 tech. So happy to see this particular build personally because of the memories, sold it to my brother when I left the Pilbara. Wish I kept it. Do it proud Marty.

I was thinking all along it’s like a darker shade of Atlantis Blue that they used on Gems up to ‘81, and then he made that comment about it being close. Now thinking about it a bit more, I reckon it’s almost spot on for Tahitian blue that they used on later TE, TF, and VH Commodore.

I wondered why the Gemini looked familiar to me. It was sold in North America as the Chevrolet Chevette. My neighbour had one when I was a kid, and they were known as cheap nuggets by the time I became a teenager. But they all but disappeared by the time I got my driver's licence. My first car was A Dodge Neon. I won't be restoring one, ever.

Hi Guys, I've been driving since 1973. My first car was a 1964 Isuzu Bellett; after which I bought the only new car I've ever owned, a 1975 Holden Isuzu Gemini sedan. Mine was Yellow similar to what your painting over. It was a great little car. It went really well for a small car. I remember tell one of my friends one day that it could do 100 mph (160 kph). To prove it we drove up to the very start of Moverly Rd, Coogee, and wound her up. We were just bumping on 160 kph right at the end of the road. Jumped on the brakes. It was a cement road, and the wheels lock a moment as we crossed over each cement section, to just stop before Anzac Pde, as a cloud of tyre smoke drifted past us. I'm really looking forward to see the end result of your project. Perhaps you could find an old Bellett. Really enjoy your videos. Great channel. P.S. I wouldn't suggest trying to do that these days!

First car I ever "drove" was a blue Gemini. Sitting on my grandfather's lap as a 12 year old steering it around a football oval in the early 90s. Poor thing had a rust hole in the passenger side floor which was covered with house carpet. I used to love washing it to try and make it look as good as it could. Wish we still had it, because doing a project like this on it would have been really cool.

Loving the build. Back in the late-80s in NZ, my dad and I modded my Vauxhall Chevette. Because the Chevette is a GM T-car, the same as the Opel Kadett, Isuzu Gemini and Chevrolet Chevette, we used the bigger and stronger Isuzu diff and f&r suspension coils. A popular repower at the time was to use the Isuzu Piazza 2.0 crate engine, but we used a Toyota 18R-GR engine and W50 gearbox from an imported JDM Celica front-cut. Cutting the front off an RA28 Celica GT would be punishable by death nowadays! We finished the car with an HS Rally bodykit and painted in Opel Manta works rally style livery.
