You rightfully hyped yourself up about the sardine dude. He is amazing. I ADORE the blocky way of modelling that tomato withe the paint. I am so comfortoble working with round brushes, I guess I should challenge myself by using a flat one! It kinda sounds weird, but I enjoyed watching you struggle. I could relate to this so much, when I try try to trust the process.

So for the reds, there is a couple of things to consider. The pigments will impact hugely on how the paint behave when you mix it with other colors. If there is more than one pigment in the paint, it might muddy up in an unexpected way. The other thing is the warmth of the red. you have cold and warm red. If you mix a warm red with a cold color, you'll end up with a neutred color. If you want to keep the right temp, you need to select two colors of the same warmth. If it make sens.

Maybe try using heirloom tomato pictures as a reference. They come in so many different colors and have a range of colors in just one fruit. They might be more interesting than just a blob of red, you know? Plus the tomatoes in grocery stores are so boring because they’re all alike.
