I have 30 year old Sata's and I have never spayed an gun with Spray can paint. It is not resistant to paint thinners. Either polish it or Anodise coat the body.

I see you repainted the actual gun. That really isn't a great idea because any cleaning fluids you would use will remove that paint as well. With that type gun, either bare polished metal or anodize the gun would be a much better idea. And you should have also cleaned the original cup to go with it. Either way, I applaud you for saving a spray gun. Thumbs Up!
