Wow Howard. I learnt so much from this one video. I'm doing exactly this process (on almost the same vehicle - XB not XC though) next and I was a bit nervous about the next step. I've now got a full step by step guide and that gives me a huge amount of confidence as I progress and you've know idea how much that helps guys like us! I learnt three or four new things about the plenum removal that is going to be so valuable to me in the coming weeks, like the best way to get out the welds as well as little techniques Darren does along the way. Also saw one or two welds that I didn't know were there but because you break it down so well, that's saved me a lot of time and some swearing as well :) I wish mine only had as much rust as this. If you've got a few layers of paint . Scuff it first . Put the stripper on and cover it with glad wrap. It keeps the chemicals in without drying out and works through the layers. Spartan Derin A was the best ever metal prep phosphoric acid treatment. It would be a hazardous chemical nowadays. It would take those deep rust deposits out real fast. It left a surface so clean, you could paint on it. 😉

I wish they made the area behind the door where it goes to meet the rest of the body as pleasant on the final XH / XG wagons. It looks like some ambulance conversion company did it in a hurry not worrying how it looked, because the sides are slightly wider on the late wagons so they had to bring it out somehow. I am recommissioning one for a daily driver to do my detailing trade, nothing special just like having the amount of space to carry stuff when you find the need with the plus of being able to kip in the thing. Maybe later I might throw a barra in or something, a first for a lifetime GM guy 😛
