This week I paint my cute watercolor mushroom characters while answering your questions. It does get a little in depth so it's a long one.
Artists I mentioned:
www.aaia.com.au/jacinta-numin...
www.sarahcarltonart.com/
Most of the creators I enjoy watching are recommendations from other KZbinrs so I'll list all of the ones I mentioned:
‪@ShelbySherritt‬ Ceramicist/Potter
‪@RoseRequinCrafts‬ Art/Craft
‪@DIYDanie‬ DIY/Art/Craft
‪@aceofclay‬ Sculpting
‪@ChloeRoseArt‬ Art/Craft
‪@nerdecrafter‬ Sculpting/Art/Craft/Unboxing
‪@SarahRenaeClark‬ Art/Craft
‪@MoriahElizabeth‬ Art/Craft
‪@ADCArtAttack‬
I may of mentioned more? I will try and make a favourites list in my Playlist sections later.

You gave such awesome, honest answers to all the questions. I appreciate that some of them were quite sensitive and it's not always easy to share. Thankyou ❤ I love the way you speak about your son and his gift. It is a wonderful skill to have come naturally to be able to completely accept people without judgement. Lots of us work so hard to try to reach that state! On the rare occasions I come across people with that skill it makes me feel so warm and determined to be a better person and help contribute to a better world. As a parent of kids with some health challenges I really related to what you said about the other aspects of learning what your kids need and adapting your life. It sometimes feels like you aren't meant to say anything that's not 100% positive but I don't think that is good for anyone. It's possible to admit that it's hard, that you worry, that it takes effort to accept and find a new way of living that is not what you had expected or planned without it being complaining or implying that you hate your life or resent your kids but there are people that don't understand that and it can put you off wanting to share honestly or talk about some of the realities you deal with. I appreciate that you touched on this a bit here and I'm very glad that part of your way of adjusting and finding time and activity for yourself resulted in this channel. I always feel good after watching your videos :) I love Shelby too! She is such a kind, positive, creative soul. My daughter and I were lucky enough to do a mini-workshop type session with her earlier this year, I think it was part of Spotlight's craft week promotions or something like that. Oddly enough, she showed us all how to make little mushrooms out of our clay and when I have seen you paint your cute little mushroom characters it reminds me of that :) I still have my mushroom on my desk because I am too indecisive about how to paint it! I think if the opportunity ever presents, a collab between you and Shelby would be great, you both seem to share the same kind, positive energy and I think you'd combine your skills wonderfully ❤ Oh I love your tulip painting too. They are my favourite flower. So simple and elegant but not always easy to get right in art. You did great!

Thank you so much for your vulnerability. My daughter has epilepsy that we have only recently begun to get under control. She was recently diagnosed with ADHD and some minor delays. It’s really tough. You have been such an inspiration to me since I found your channel. I have wanted to be able to “do art” since I was a kid and have always felt like I wasn’t good enough to try. As someone who has had a chronic illness since I was in middle school I have been on the side of being the one who needed extra care and I have a younger sister who has her own chronic illness as well so I have also experienced being the one who needs to give extra care and I think being on both sides of the coin has allowed me to better understand how much my family does for me. And though sacrifices have been made, it wasn't something they regret just as I don't regret my sacrifices for my sister. It's all love. Hello I felt like drawing , even really simple designs needed to start with a big knowledge and some magical talent you get at birth. After listening to Schaeferart 3 years ago I discovered that everybody can learn drawing. So at 29 I started learning. (At first true KZbin tutorials) What I make is really appreciated by friends, family, colleagues. So I guess I did learn to draw. That led me to sculpting as well. It’s a great journey I recommend everyone. Thank you for sharing your story. Nice videos . Good journey 🎨 Coralie

I stopped making art for years because of comparing and harsh self criticism! It was awful. But finding artists in youtube around the same time I happened to start getting therapy, is what helped me get past that and start picking up art tools again. Following artists and finding new ones like you are what keeps me going!

It's hard to describe, but I just clicked with you immediately. I've watched all your videos since then, including the older ones you mention here and despite this being my first ever comment, I've loved them all. What you say there is so important: same as you, KZbin learned me that art do not have to be serious and perfect, it can be whimsical and fun. And that helps me to make art. Not to be perfect, not to make a job out of it or for the museum. Just to have fun, wind down, relax.

Maybe this will help (do keep reading - it's a bit long, but it needs the background, I think, to understand where I'm coming from): What sort of art do we see from 3 - 6 year old children? How does it make us feel? Normally, we respond to it with a genuine, happy smile, and thank thank child for showing us. When we do art like that as an adult, we get one of two responses: One is that supercilious, condescending smile, the other is a genuine heart response to the simplicity and joy. I feel deeply sorry for those who offer that supercilious, condescending smile, because it tells me that their inner child is caged up. I went through a very nasty breakdown in 2021 / 22 and am still struggling a bit, but doing an art challenge has taught me a lot. To begin with, I was trying to prove to myself and one particular person that I really am an artist, and it was just pressure, pressure, pressure to get that 9cm X 13cm drawing / painting 'right'. Then I stopped sharing it with that person, and did whatever came out. And what came out was stick people, simple primary school art, going back to the time I was doing children's clubs, producing colouring pages for them, and before that when I was doing huge murals and colouring pages for children's Outpatients - brightly coloured, under fives 'kiddie-colouring book' murals . And suddenly, the light began to shine again, and the rest of that sketchbook challenge is a real mix of 'proper' art and the house, Mummy & Daddy, and a sun in the sky, a stick person jumping for joy, a 'lollipop tree', blobs of paint on paper with total disregard of 'rules', a pencil scribble with the non-dominant hand, a pencil pattern made with eyes closed, then afterwards coloured in with whatever colour my hand touched first. Just the joy of sploshing paint around, scribbling with a pencil,. Some of those blobs of paint turned into faces, objects, cakes, shoes, leaves, whatever I saw in the blob. Some of the scribbles turned into glorious patterns of colour. You know - pre-school / early primary art, and the JOY is phenomenal!!! This is _not,_ absolutely *not* a waste of our art supplies!!!! This is art in its simplest, truest, purest form, straight from our beautiful 'inner child' who's been longing to get out ever since primary school and colouring within the lines squashed him / her into a small, double-locked metal-doored cupboard. It brings the *JOY* back, the smile on the face, the love of 'just making messes', the freedom, release, to truly express ourselves, once we kick out that "I ought to do ..." thing which nags us to artistic death. And it truly, deeply matters to our overall health and well-being. When I'm out doing plein air (finally made it 'out there' again this year - a very big, very scary step!), and people stop by to chat, and say, "I wish I could do that" (as they almost all do), I show them the other stuff in the sketchbook, show them how the base of it all is that wonky house with stick mummy and daddy, the lollipop tree, the rainbow... I let them see the stuff that "went wrong" .. and suddenly they realise that they want to have a go themselves. They don't mock my stick people, my faceless figures, the funny faces, the one that 'went wrong'. They are encouraged and smile, and relax, and say, "Oh, I think I can do that!" And oh, my word!!! That brings HUGE joy to me!!!!! And so can you do this!!! Those who offer that " supercilious, condescending smile,"? I'm deeply sorry for them. They are missing out on so much in their lives!!! Do your best to ignore all those voices, those people, and draw, paint, make messes, do whatever 'happens', and allow yourself to be yourself and take the adventure to see where it leads you. So, after this, I hope you've made it to the end, and more than that, I hope that you will give it a go, and see where it leads you! 🤗

Editing takes me ages and I always dreaded doing it… That I don’t have air conditioning and the weather is so hot is a big deterrent for me to filming… I can’t have the fan blasting right at me otherwise all the mic picks up is wind, and with kids screaming downstairs I had to close the windows when I record… It became an oven in my room and gosh I was just dripping sweat… Of course the main reason I stopped was because work got just wayyy too busy, but that’s finally died down now.

Thank you for sharing so much of your heart and life!! ❤️ I love the chocolate mushy!! 🍫🍄 He's really sweet and my kind of person!! 👍 Chocoholics unite!! 🤣 I'm a mom of four children with invisible disabilities. My oldest is 37 and has bi polar, borderline, depression, anxiety, plus many more issues. My son is 25 and has ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression. My two youngest were adopted from an adopted niece whose list is similar to my oldest daughter. My 13 year old was born 10 weeks early and has intellectual disability, anxiety, & autism. My 11 year old has anxiety, depression, & ADHD. We are fairly certain she will be diagnosed with an emotional issue as well, like bi polar and/or borderline personality disorder, as her moods bounce from highs to lows in a blink. Her sister may also have more diagnoses as she gets older due to some other abnormal issues. I totally understand your challenges, although different, sensory perception has such a strong effect on children who haven't managed or are not capable of acclimating or finding socially acceptable ways to avoid them. Fire alarms are horrifying for my two autistic kids, but my son, with age and a higher IQ, has learned to adapt better. My youngest, it is tactile things that set her off like scratchy clothing - can't handle jeans or flip sequins due to the texture. My husband has experienced sadness when colleague's children are graduating from college or getting married and starting families of their own. We will likely never have grandchildren or a college graduate. We landed in a different location than the "American dream" family, although I know it isn't just Americans but much more universal of all couples starting out. The road is a bit more bumpy and curvy than the map we were given at the start of things! I guess it is a different adventure? Bringing to light the struggles and being willing to stand up and say I have this issue or my family has this struggle, especially mental health issues, takes strength and courage. There is still a lot of judgment, at least in the States, still. So much is not understood by those who get to travel the map we were given in life. Speaking up and demanding the help our children and families need is sometimes something we don't have the strength for at the end of the day! 🥺 I'm so glad you have found a therapeutic approach through art and KZbin!! 😊 You are a delight to watch and your art is really fun and lovely!! 🤗😍 You go, girl!! 🥰
