I had a painting done with 2 pictures combined and I didn't have to ask for them to make it look like one nature picture. It is absolutely amazing and it was a huge hit for my family. I guess it depends on what artist you get and what feedback you give because I was worried about it looking weird too... I didn't even have to ask the artist to make the shadows of the same because he did it anyway 🙂☺️

I don't think those are actual paintings. I seen this effect back in the 1970s even. Back then they were basically taking photos and then brushing on a kind of thick lacquer of some kind that gave the illusion of paint. These days, however, they most likely step it up a notch by first touching up the photo (filters that remove wrinkles, etc) and then running the photo through a paint filter in photoshop. Then they do a similar process as in the past. This is why when you send them merged photos the end result still looks like it is merged, etc. No one is actually painting it from scratch... thus, there is no creativity to it in that regard where they would change shadows, lighting, etc. Btw, if you look at your "painting" where you had them remove some of the background you will even see that they didn't even do a good job in photoshop. Instead of using the cloning tool and blending it all nicely, they simply just got out the photoshop paintbrush and tossed on a single color. That is why you see those black patches that stick out like a sore thumb. It is still neat. However, most of their cost is probably in the frame. My grandparents got one of these when I was a kid and I remember everyone liking it even though they knew it wasn't a real painting.
@TheMackhimself
@TheMackhimself 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's handpainted, it's just traced (which is fine) and painted exactly 1:1 with boring values, colour temperatures etc... and not much "artistic decisions of improvement" - along with a few beginner mistakes such as too white white of the eyes, makes it look a bit amateurish and mass produced imho. But for that price, not to mention whatever ridiculously low amount the artists get paid.. I think it's fair enough. As long as it makes the recipients happy =)
@101perspective

@@TheMackhimself Possible, but highly unlikely considering what I pointed out earlier. I think they just used techniques similar to these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppnPZWuaiapkgas kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoWnnWCMeMqmaKM Like you said though, just because they are probably misleading people and charging WAY too much for what they actually provide doesn't mean those people still won't be happy.

They could not be truly authentic traditional oil portraits. There is absolutely zero way to produce a traditional oil portrait with its many layers in two weeks. There would not be enough time to dry between layers and then dry enough to varnish. This is more an assembly line of items that mimic portraits poorly. For those who cannot afford the real thing or who want something fast that isn't really produced according to the long history of true portraiture or art history, then it may be okay. But its like buying a fake in my book.

As far the picture "collage" goes, it's highly unlikely any artist will successfully adjust each person so that they all have the same lighting. If an artist could do that, then their talent is wasted working for this company, because yes, these portraits are really cheap. And really, you can't expect artists to work miracles. I knew an artist who had a different business but it also involved receiving pictures from customers, and some of the pictures she received were unsalvageable. Too blurry, underexposed, overexposed, etc... It made me wonder who in their right mind thought that was an appropriate picture to use for art. But I digress.

I would be careful purchasing from these folks, and would have serious questions about how much the artist (the one who actually does all the work) gets. Most artist charge per square inch upwards of $5.00 so for that 20x24 they should be getting about $2000 for that painting. Oil paints are expensive, shipping is expensive and the time and effort they put into making these paintings as good as they are is a multitude of hours, which is why it costs so much. I've heard that most of the artists only get paid about 20% of what you pay for the painting. So for $379, if what I heard is true, that artist only got paid 75$ for a few weeks of work. I know you are a review channel and that this is your job, but please support local artists or at the very least support the artists directly!

Incidentally, most of your are probably getting your portrait painted by some Chinese factory artist. They are trained to paint copies of the same Master's work again and again and again and then imported to the USA and sold for pretty cheap. There is an actual city in China that is well known for their artist "factories"--the owners get help from the Chinese Communist govt as well.

Two words -- DRY TIME> These are painted over an image which is okay for some who don't know that much about art, but not the real thing. This is a super fast assembly line not from scratch way of having something that resembles a thousands of years tradition. There is absolutely no way that an oil painting will dry for shipping in two weeks. There must be dry time between layers and then more dry time before varnishing. This is a gimmick -- all be it one some may find appealing. But for those who are a TRUE authentic real deal oil traditional oil portrait fed by passed down highest level skill, you are not going to get that from a website that pumps out fakes mimicking a tradition that is not quick, unmeticulous, and very lat looking in two weeks or even a month. In my opinion they are boring and aweful.

the paintings look like photos. So why not just stick with a photo instead of paying $400 for a photo like painting? I don't understand it unless you somehow think a painting is better than a photo--which it would be if it was art...but the paintings I've seen of Paint Your Life --though well crafted, aren't artistic in the least. They look like those apps which turn photos into supposed paintings.

Do you want real butter or margarine? And even that is not a wide enough comparison. These are okay if you have zero knowledge of the history, training, or elements of what makes up true art and especially the long-standing history of art portraiture. You will not get an authentic work of art. This is merely something that imitates art. If you have no knowledge you won't miss a thing until you are exposed to authentic art. These touched-up photos have no creative flair, all look very stylistically exactly the same, so they are boring and flat, and are not true artworks. Because they're all the same, they look like they came off of an assembly line. If there truly are a variety of artists producing these, them they have been given heavy dogma for HOW to produce them and are not using their talent or creativity. Their artistic person style or voice has been completely erased. So these just are not real art. Sorry. What is that saying about ignorance is bliss. But once you learn what truly goes into a real artwork, you will realize you got something that falls very short. Don't waste your money. Go for a real piece of art. Honor the people in the painting by buying something archivally sound and authentic and worth the investment. Something that will last generations. These are not real true traditional oil portraits one month is not enough dry time for the layers of oil that go into an authentic piece.
