Hey there Fil, looks like you paint exactly like I do my friend! Great info right here in this video! I can tell you've done a lot of paint jobs in your time! How satisfying is it to lay down that clear coat and see the finish come alive, I agree the coat over the decals (sorry - "stickers") really finishes the job! Look great and I love the colour. Super happy with the finish straight out of the can. Some great tips with the tac rag. Funny enough I painted my pumpkin with 2k recently. Black also. No decals. I sanded after drying with 3000 grit paper and a tiny dice sized block. Then cut and polished by hand. It was a perfect flat paint. Massive gloss. It was a labour of love I must say. The only reason I say is if the run bugs you. 2000 or higher you can gently block that run out and polish as it’s automotive paint.

That's wicked dude! I've done enough polishing in my day to learn to live with certain imperfections. 1k clear isn't perfect, but I can rock it all day on a body like this and enjoy it. Good on you for having the patience to wet sand and polish a body! 👍🏻🍻

Great tutorial Fil. One little thing for the heat. Find a fitting cake dom mesh (or what ever it's called). Insects like heat and the smell of fresh paint, too😂. Your choosen paint looks awesome on the body. Maybe you can polish the runners away🤔 Have a great Sunday.

Yeah it's quite a struggle to find two days the same over here. Hopefully I'll have a shed to do it in soon with a paint booth, can't do it inside as I have limited space in my caravan.

LOL paint on a sunny day, in the UK you start with sun and normally it goes before you get finished. The scotch bright pad are brilliant, gets the primer just right without going through it. Shame the licence ran out and they do not put the ford on anymore.

I am building the pumpkin right now finished the chassis just starting the body this week paint as the sun finally comes out up island this week , the headlights fit a 5 mm led look cool with lights

Good rattle can control. I had to switch to airbrush because I would be going along with the rattle cans and just as I think I’m doing good work I will lose all control as blast a spot 🤦‍♂️😀 Nice work!

Thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful. Many of the same principles apply to lexan, but it's a little different, as you're painting the inside of the body. Sorry, I misled you. The example I have is when you have a used/poorly painted lexan body. Could you use the same technique to paint the outside of the body?

@@groovyg oh, I see. Yes, you absolutely can. All these basic principles would apply to painting the outside of a lexan body. I would skip the priming part though. Lexan bodies are designed to flex and by adding primer, you're adding a lot more product/material than can potentially crack. So skip the primer, and you're good to go! 👍🏻

@@groovygmake sure you use ps paint as a primer first to bite into the lexan then you can use any paint on top ..from acrylic to enamels to the old cellulose without it cracking and falling off ,Ive only ever painted one lexan body inside in twenty odd years and couldn’t stand the fake plastic shine so I’ve painted mine on the outside ever since .took me a couple of goes how to work out how to do it right ..

If I ever have a Midnight Pumpkin or squash van, I would paint it in dark purple(not sure if midnight purple) and make decals with the phrase “Who do you voodoo”. But well, great video as always.

I wish I had the camera on her... She literally did everything in her power to NOT mix me up the colour I wanted. The irony is, when I call from my business line and request a custom colour, it's mixed, canned, and delivered within a couple hours. Lol! 🤦 Tell Ingrid I wish her the best! Nice tutorial! Thank you for sharing. Do you have recommendations for people who have hard water that would leave spots if dried via evaporation only? Rinse with distilled water? Mechanical drying?

Good question! Mechanical drying for sure, just be sure to use a lint free cloth that'll leave no residue behind. A fresh microfiber towel works really well. 👍🏻

Looks great, buddy! And I loved your relaxed approach and the advice, for example those fluff from the outdoors, just wipe them off... I would have probably panicked if I saw those... And yeah, after my Grasshopper paint job fiasco, I am definitely ready to give it a proper try, ha ha, I need to man up first and get me some proper primer... Relaxed approach is the name of the game, good sir. Haha. ⛱️ Did you ever watch my RC Body Work series? It's a few years old now, but there's a bunch of info you'd probably enjoy in there. We did legit body work on a lowride Pumpkin body. Filled holes, used body filler, primer, etc... Then my wife gave it a DEADLY paint job! Kandy red pearl.... 🤤 🤤 🤤

You can wet sand the runs out or orange peel on the paint and then go again, though it looks great and it will just get beat on.

Great job Fil! 👌 I couldn't have put it better myself, that's pretty much the exact same process I do! Such a nice process working with hard bodies, and such a great sense of achievement once completed! I do hope this one will be a shelf queen, or else that first roll over is going to be painful! Great colour choice man, the pumpkin just has to be black as far as I'm concerned. I've done many pumpkin shells, but always dread those flame decals on the front wings that are so prone to air bubbles! Very enjoyable to watch along Sir. 👍 👍 👍

Yeah buddy, this one was strictly a display piece build. I love being 45 and using RC's to decorate my home. Hahahaha! And agreed pal, black is a must-do colour. Although my Low Ride Pumpkin is a siiiiiick kandy red that my wife painted and it's incredible looking. Can't go wrong with all those curves! 🤗🍑

I find when painting a body if you have a girlfriend/partner/wife with a hairdryer is a great option hahahaha she might hate you for it but she'll be fine after a while in my case my girlfriend/partner give me a spare one just for that reason she's a keeper she drives them now hahaha another awesome video and man you always look cool nice 😎

Took a few watch sessions to get to the end. Not a bad thing just a long video. I think it looks great! I always wondered if you could clear coat over decals. Mostly to help keep them attached. Great video love the content keep 'em coming

You're really good at installing decals if you can do it without soapy water. I always have to use water, I can never place them correctly the first try.

I use soapy water when applying 1:1 car decals, but I find the 1:10th decals I can usually do without it. Although, I failed miserably with my Lancia Delta Integrale decals... I should've used water there. But thanks again for watching! 👊🏼

That clear coat gets very hard, very fast. I'd say one hour in the sun and it's going to be rock hard and ready to wet sand/polish. Good luck with your project! 👊🏼
