Thank you so much...I've been using water mixable paints for almost 6 years now and that was just from Winsor and Newton ... I wanted to learn more about glazing and more about making wings of butterflies or things that were thinner see through fabrics or even skin not so opaque...but just couldn't find any books or tutorials that went beyond the simple flat colors, the clean up and not toxic points of the mixable paints ..or any info about the mediums. And I've started buying the Georgian Daler Rowney and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Thanks for these tutorials. I have a little trouble understanding your accent, but thank God for youtube and replaying the tutorial. What I didn't understand is what the Georgian oil was called that is for glazing...and can we glaze over and over in layers like the old Masters did with regular oil paints or is that what you were doing in this tutorial and showing these different layers...and you don't have to let each layer completely dry? And what about varnishing when done...do we have to wait 6 months like the regular oil paints before you varnish and what type of varnish.?

I used regular linseed oil (water soluble version of course) to add the paint and water for glazing. You do need to wait until the previous layer is dry so you can layer as many times as you like, just like traditional oil paint. I would still wait a few months before varnishing and use one formulated for water soluble oil paints - preferably one for the same band of paints used

Very nice teaching and art. Ty. I wanted to know can I use linseed oil to make a glaze instead of water? The reason I ask is because I make my grisaille with paint mixed by water and since with oil the rule is fat over lean I make my glazes with linseed oil (the water mixable kind)

Great tutorials! The only thing I am confused about is what is the best way to reduce consistency of water mixable oils? Do I have to use a few drops of linseed oil alone or a combination of other mediums? I read a lot that water is not a good thinner to use but I don't want to use other thinners at all due to my allergies. Thank you so much for your help!

thank you Oleg :) If you are painting wet in wet in one session, you simply use water and nothing else. If however you are painting over a previously dry layer, then you add a few drops of water mixable linseed oil to your water in order to adhere to the fat over lean rule.

I've recently purchases Berlin Lukas water soluble oils, and your course is a nice supplement for my understanding of this medium. I'm still learning a lot, and wanting to understand more about it. I've seen videos where there's debates about using water with these oils. Some tend to think that 'water mixable' means you can clean the oils with water; but we still should use mediums with them. After watching the videos of your parrot painting, and also your first video demonstrating with the regular oils with medium vs. water mixable oils ( with water), I'm still excited to learn that water is an option. I would love to hear further on your comments about water mixable oil with water or medium. Also do you use the short handles Simply Simons bristle brushes? Thank you kindly... loving your humour, and videos :-)

I use the fat over lean rule as explained in the first video of the series. No I don't normally use the short handle brushes

whenever you are using a medium, you substitute the linseed oil for the medium. The same goes for quick drying medium.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mix them with the water the same way you did with the linseed oil? All the other tutorials I have watched for water mixable oil paints doesn't show how to use them.

yes you add it to your water as I have shown in the video. You can of course add it directly into the paint as well if you are painting impasto (in one layer)
