I love your videos. I was taught many years ago that blooms were "mistakes". And while I find them interesting in their placement, I still hear those voices from the past telling me they are a watercolorists "mistakes". I wish the instructors I had could see the beauty you add to your paintings in using them. Bravo!

Thank you for another lovely demo. I find your videos informative as well as calming and therapeutic. The fish is beautiful. Also thank you for introducing Rosemary & Co. Ashamed to admit that I had not heard of them before and yet they are made in the county of Yorkshire, 20 miles from where I live! That's quite funny, don't you think, considering where you are. Thanks again, Valerie.

Another reason Friday is the best day! I too love Arches, (300lb Hotpress sheets -simply kick a**) Saunders is a close second. I find the paper itself is an important part of any painting, after all if you don't have a solid foundation everything on it is weakened. As with all your tutorials Louise I learn something new with each one.

Thanks Don. I agree. It's so important. I bought a journal recently and started painting in it.........it was awful. Terrible paper. I gave up after 5 minutes. I'll keep the journal for my grand kids to play around in. If beginners start out painting on cheap pulp paper they'll soon give up.

Love how the lines you made by lifting the paint really made the fins 'flow'. It looked much better than the painted on lines from the first painting. I can see how a study painted first helps with the final work. I would love to be able to paint loosely, but generally get tied up in details and make a mess by over working it. I will have to try doing a study first.

Louise, love the goldfish. Watched it on KZbin as a precursor to following you on Patreon. You mentioned 2 sketchbooks: Windsor Newton and Etcher. Are they watercolor paper? And what are the full names...I forgot to write it down. 😋 Thank You so much. During this unusual state of the world, you have become a friend I like to visit!

One quick question. The Fabriano paper. Is it as good as Arches? Or is it good enough because of the price point?
@LouiseDeMasi
@LouiseDeMasi 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shelly. If I had to choose one over the other I'd choose Arches. It's tougher and stands up to more scrubbing. I like Fabriano because colour is easily removed after it has dried. It is lovely to paint on and is a little cheaper than Arches but Arches is still my number 1.

Hi, I love the fish, it reminds me of my friend who raises goldfish and Koi. I'm just learning about watercolor. I am curious as to how much paint you mix when you are mixing a color. I mixed colors, then realized that I didn't mix enough. Needless to say, the color I mixed the second time wasn't the same color. I had to restart three times. It is/was very frustrating. Especially since my White Knight paints don't mix right, red and blue do not make purple, they make mud. Any way, if there is way you might give me an idea that would be great. Also I'm using blocks of watercolor not the already wet kind. Thank you ♥♥♥
@LouiseDeMasi
@LouiseDeMasi 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I must admit I don't do a lot of mixing. If I was mixing a colour for a sky or for something where I knew I needed it to be the same consistent color I would try to make sure I mixed more than enough of it. For everything else, (ie for some grey feathers on a bird) when I run out I mix more up. If it's not exactly the same I'm not bothered by it at all. It can actually enhance the painting when the colours vary slightly.

Louise, what’s the brush you’re using at the beginning of the painting? I *think* it’s a DaVinci Maestro 7 but I’m not sure if it's a series 10 or series 11 or a series 35. I like it though and would like to buy one.
