Painting a Rainy City Street at Night with Acrylics - Paint with Ryan

In today’s acrylic painting lesson we paint a cityscape depicting a rainy city street filled with colorful reflections. This relaxing painting tutorial is completed for the most part in real time and will cover the step by step process of how to paint cars, reflections, buildings and of course how to make it all look realistic. Acrylic Paints:
Cerulean Blue, Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue, Cadmium Red Light Hue, Primary Red, Burnt Sienna, Mars Black, Titanium White
Brushes:
1” flat headed brush
1/3” flat headed brush (medium to soft)
1/3” round pointed brush (medium to soft)
A small round pointed brush or liner brush
Other Materials: 9X12 inch canvas, A small dish for water, Paper towel for excess paint

I totally loved your painting techniques. There are a lot of really Good painters out there who can paint a picture that's pretty but then there are great painters like you who can paint a picture that can reach into people's imaginations and pull out many different emotions. I think that comes down to you and your subjective opinion of what looks better :) The amount of light on the figure can vary dramatically due to the ever changing light sources, so either is justifiable from a technical perspective. Hope that helps!

why do you start out black and white and then add color? I’m just trying to learn new things when painting :)

Hey! While not necessary it allows us to take some level of complexity out of complex images. By starting with black and white we remove the necessity of also balancing our hues, so it makes life a little easier :) That said, it's not necessary and you can certainly paint with color from the beginning, should you feel confident about balancing your hues & values at the same time
