Love your paintings. I wish you would make a video explaining how to use oils as a medium. Explaining how long you have to let paint dry on the paintings before you can continue and finish one. Thanks. Also cleaning your brushes, etc.

I just watched this piece. The first of all your work. Im impressed! I will work on perfecting my art to someday to be able to paint the same way. Inspiring. I did art in high school all 4 years but I have been able to sketch/draw miscellaneous stuff. In high school I was able to branch out to other media forms but painting is great. My wife had seen my art work from the past and she convinced me to get back into it. Its been 14 years since I have sketched/painted, etc and my first piece seemed to be like I have never left it. I watch artists on KZbin to get influenced and see how different approaches people do. I came across yours and I'm hooked. I just subscribed and I look forward to seeing more of your work. I wish I'd known about underpainting like this at art college. When you squint your eyes at 1:20 the scene, colours and atmosphere are already right there! Beautiful. I used to work on a warm tinted ground and although good for chiaroscuro effects, it killed the freshness of the paint ultimately, and 'heated' everything up too much. Underpainting, especially at this level, is definitely the key.

And you probably already know this, but it's an underpainting done with acrylic paint which dries completely in no time flat and then oil paints on top. Very ingenious technique.

@@RobertF- yeah it's a great technique. Working off the white ground gives you that brighter Pre-Raphaelite 'English' light as well. I kinda knew this back in the day but felt like I HAD to lay down a warm midtone ground because Constable, Rubens etc did. 😄 Cheers for commenting btw.

I guess u could get some decent details without using solvents but your brush strokes would keep breaking. So it helps to have some sort of solvent to thin your paint down and not get a broken line. I’m guessing your worried about the safety of solvents so some less toxic choices would be safflower oil (as a medium/sole bent to get better details) eco friendly Citrus thinner (for cleaning brushes) also it will never hurt to get good ventilation
