I'm a complete beginner and this was fascinating. So much I didn't realize that goes into it. Thank you for this.!

HI ZARA LUV YOUR SPANIEL IN ACRYLICS! JUST WONDERED HOW U ACHIEVED THE LOVELY MUTED BACKGROUND. WAS IT THE GLAZING METHOD??? BOB

Hi Bob, thank you for your kind comments :). That is done with an airbrush. I have a video here on KZbin under my acrylic tutorial playlist that shows how I use it :)

I’m just starting out doing acrylic, and I’m just amazed at how realistic you make your painting look like. I’m doing a French mastiff and struggle getting the snout and nose’s colours. Do you have any suggestions on how I can also paint as realistic as you all?
@zaratomsart3 жыл бұрын
Thank you :). Exciting you have recently started with acrylics. It's an amazing medium. Layers is the key. Working on the colours and tones that are closest to the skin and building layers on top working on building layers from dark to light. I have a Patreon channel which currently has a Pastel Tier. I will be very soon adding a Acrylic Tier to this. The videos on my Patreon are 1-3 hours (sometimes longer) with many real time clips, step by step and in depth voice over and I show every part from full projects like this and focus videos for instance how to paint a nose etc. I have just uploaded a 2 hour tutorial of a dog nose in pastels but I have a video here in acrylics of a dog nose which you may find useful.

@@zaratomsart ; thank you so much. I have , what feels to me, a ton of layers, but mixing the colours is still a big struggle to me. My biggest problem is the pinkish tone the nose has, blending into the lips. Do you maybe have a link to the nose in acrylic? Would love to learn how to and you are an amazing teacher
@zaratomsart3 жыл бұрын
@@donkeykrok if you click my 'playlist' tab and look under 'acrylic tutorials' there are a few voice overs there. Here is the nose link but it's a darker nose rather than pinks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHW7ioSZlN2nZq8 Thank you for your lovely comments. I'm pleased to hear the videos and voice overs are useful. When your layering pinks and lighter values if they are not showing up as well as you'd like it's usually becasue your layer underneath isnt dark enough.

I love your work and have probably watched all your videos at least once. Can I ask what you thin your acrylics with to get that lovely fluid application that you appear to have?
@zaratomsart3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much that's really kind. I only thin my acrylics with water. I dont use any mediums etc. =)

What colors did you use for the fur? I’m trying to paint a Boykin spaniel in watercolor and am struggling with the correct fur color.
@zaratomsart2 жыл бұрын
I would have used predominantly burnt umber and burnt sienna for the brown colours. With black mixed in to darken shadows.

I only have Windsor and Newtons acrylics, are they ok?
@zaratomsart2 жыл бұрын
I have used their oil paints and liked them so imagine their acrylics are also good quality. The opacity and transparency of the colours may vary but I'd use them in the same way as my Liquitex Basics =)
