Great job would like to know what paint you used the name, eg, gray,, at the white one, we had 3 years old washers and it's going to rust the detergent area, thanks for your vedio had an idea to start the work.

I am really surprised that you had that much rust after only 6 years of service! Oh well you took care of it in short order and the washer looks great. FYI - I have uses rustoleum products on my outside metal patio furniture for over 25 years and it always stands the test of time. Great job (as always).
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK5 жыл бұрын
Me too! But I also wonder if this was caused as we didn't have a condensing dryer for a LONG time, making it very sweaty in there.

The Carpenter's Daughter any products that can be use on the machine as preventative measures to protect from the elements?
@phildxyz5 жыл бұрын
After you cleaned it up, I'd use a 'rust converter' before I put the primer on. Something like Hammerite Kurust. This helps the primer bond and reduces the chance of the rust breaking through again. I've had some success with this method.
@lordgarth15 жыл бұрын
If she got it all off then converter isn’t needed but using it would allow her to not have to be so thorough.

Going to spray paint my tumble dryer white now, as was giving it away as getting new kitchen, it’s yellow in bits and scratches, not much, minimal dents that will probably improve with the painting seeing as it will just all go white again, but I’m well pissed off, as I’ve promised my fridge to someone 😮, and now wish I’d just tried this first 😂

To Make sure your machine stay clean every month do a 90'c wash with nothing but decaling detergent to pevent mold and keep the door and the draw open to last longer and avoid low wash temperatures liquid can cause alot of problems e.g mold drum bearing Limecale I would recommend bio or non biological powder to prevent from happening hope this helps

I'm definately of the same mindset as you. I hate getting rid of stuff that's still working. Would a clear lacquer over the white have given it more of the "manufacturers finish' or is that just overkill? Good job though 👍

Krylon Expoy paint for appliances works well. Be careful when considering ranges. Not just any paint is safe for ranges due to the exposure to high temperatures. Always read labels on paint cans.

good video, if you fold the masking tape in half to create a tube like piece of masking tape then stick that on the line you want to mask off it will give you whats called a soft edge meaning the paint edge where the new and old paint join wont be a sharp/stand out so much, you can then mask behind that in the normal way to cover areas you dont want to paint. you can buy soft edge masking tape off ebay but its not very cheap compared normal masking tape. id also recommend using a good quality masking tape that sticks, not the diy masking tape but automotive stuff which you can buy off ebay cheap enough as it has better adhesive on it and stops paint bleeding underneath the tape. the lumps on in the paint look more like a paint reaction to me (paint pickling) this caused by the solvents in the paint attacking the old paint causing it to lift off the surface and pickle up but it could have also been moisture on the surface before painting it or maybe some washing powder residue - cleaning the surface with panel wipe would more than likely stopped the reaction if it was moisture or residue , its also not ideal painting over powder coating as paints tend not to stick to it very well. also once powder coating starts to lift away you find it will come away in big bits as once the surface is broken it all tends to come away fairly soon afterwards

Shocking condition for a 6 year old washing machine. I suspect the drum seal is leaking slightly as witnessed by rust at around 2:12 around the edge of the seal lip. Good effort on the painting - however and being pedantic should have used a rust converter prior to painting.👍😀

With the wife moaning we have no fridge whilst I was doing it 😖 Edit....I did it in 5 coats. Each coat was super thin. Also before your next spray project....buy a multi pack of can tips on eBay before you start. Then you can just bin a Shitty clogged one and they cost pennies each

Good job done. Another easy job to do on a washing machine, if you need to is to change the pump. You will probably find a YT video on a pump change for your particular machine. Typical price I think is £20 to £40 depending on machine for a new pump.

With the poor standards of today’s manufacturing, it’s wiser to prevent this from the outset. Any white goods made today, you know what’s coming, so best to keep them clean and dry always. Fair play this is a solution if the machines still working ok.

Thanks! Agree about keeping them clean and dry! :)

Looks a neat job does that. Try turning can upside down and giving it a quick squirt into a bin or something to clean the nozzle, I do this when finished so the can lasts longer for another job.

I have a top down Whirlpool washing machine. It's just 5 years old and it generated similar rust. Would you recomend some car filler to cover the bare metal, or is enamel the best way? I am wishing to do the same thing, because the washing machine is working as it did when I bought it new, and I don't feel like changing it. Was thinking of making it silver, to match the rest of the kitchen appliances. Also, I instantly subscribed because I am an avid supporter of repairing instead of throwing away!
