Hi Barry, That’s great that you’ve got something from the video. It’s really important to be free with Watercolour. Like with most things in life when you’re trying too hard, it doesn’t go well. Best wishes, James

Thanks Claire. I do do a simple sketch, but the video didn’t pick it up because the sun was so bright on the white paper. My sketching for a painting is incredibly simple, no detail just depicting the masses. Then I go into painting where the real accuracy begins. Thanks James 😊

Well done Tanya for managing to make us feel like we are there trying to look at the view and the paper and the paint all at the same time. It was really effective. With static set ups we often get a good view of one thing but when the painter is talking about the house over there or this manky bit here, we can’t really see what is going on. This was very helpful. Including close ups on the pallet as well, which are really helpful to see as a fellow (aspiring) artist. The painting was ok too I suppose…….

Hi. Glad you found the channel, lots more videos to come! I would love to visit Massachusetts one day, especially Plymouth. My great, great etc uncle, John Carver, was on the Mayflower (my mum was a Carver)and was the first governor of Plymouth colony. Thanks for your kind wishes, James 😊

I am a direct descendant of Richard Hicks who came over on the Fortune (the 2nd ship) closely following the Mayflower….these new pilgrims helped re establish the Plymouth colony as they had lost nearly 1/2 of the original settlers. They married and expanded the settlement over the next several years into Duxbury and surrounding land. We have a town close to Duxbury called Carver, likely your ancestor’s land when divided. We have a street in Duxbury on the water named for my ancestor’s land grant….Hicks Point Road….about a mile from where I live. We may be related no doubt. What a marvelous discovery! This made my day….💙

Following on from my comment yesterday having watched your your part 1 video "most important to learn about mixing watercolour paints", the apple. As a total beginner I wanted to jump to watch you paint a complicated picture, just to watch how the style and way you did it. I really enjoyed it, I love the impressionis style. Quick, effective,fresh and stunning. I'm hooked. So now I need to buy some paper,type?, Ive a watercolour starter kit bought by my wife years ago! So armed with knowledge from your apple video I have started my watercolour journey...too dramatic? Maybe but that's how I feel. Thank you for sharing your painting, did you mention doing a weekend painting slot? Steve

Hi Stephen, I’m so pleased you enjoy my video so much and that it’s giving you inspiration The most important part at the beginning of your Watercolour journey is enthusiasm and passion, and you seem to have that in spades! For practice, you should use Boxkingford paper because it’s a decent quality and comparatively inexpensive, so you can afford to make mistakes. When you feel confident move onto Fabriano Artistico 140lb paper. I’m relatively new to KZbin so haven’t organised any weekend sessions yet. Not sure how that works. Good luck Best wishes, James

I find it fascinating that you put “marks” on the paper which look like a jumble, when, suddenly, my brain snaps to and I see the illusion and the picture suddenly looks real.
@JamesPotterAboutArt
@JamesPotterAboutArt 8 ай бұрын
Hi Lena, I think that’s one of the pleasures of having an impressionistic style, when you look closely at the marks, there’s nothing there and then you move back and the picture appears. Glad you enjoyed it. Best wishes, James

I have a comment on your non-optimal positioning of a quick release plate. let's look at your setup at 2:41 -- the upper part has quick release plate mounted in the middle of canvas board. this makes the lower part of it to hang over your horizontal supplies board covering about 50% and making it unusable. now imagine you have your quick release plate mounted in the lower 10% of your canvas board. it will still be strong enough to hold your canvas (it can hold heavy cameras), although the upper part may wiggle a bit under some wind. but there will be no overhang over your horizontal board which makes it fully accessible, so your paint and water is no longer wobbling on the edge. I'd be happy to see you improve your plein-air setup.
@JamesPotterAboutArt

Hi, Thanks for your message and interest in my set up. I can see what you mean, it does block some of the table board but I don’t really put too much on it,as long as it holds my water and my brushes that’s all. I really need. The back of the board is sort of wasted space anyway. However I do need the extra space when I do my full sheets. I hope your set up is working well for you. Best wishes, James
