I find myself coming back over and over again to this video. The negative values, the lessons about color harmony and the loose and expressive marks summarize the Picard style perfectly in one lesson.

Hey David, thanks for your kind comments! That's interesting, I guess my painterly approach gets captured well in this demo, really glad to hear it helps. I appreciate you, David, and your hard work to improve your paintings! You're doing great, keep going friend

Gosh I went back and watched a few older videos and a couple where I had not even left a comment! I realize your showing a more professional view to your viewers. The full black background and set-up area looks clean and sharp. However, I miss the old easel and roll of paper towels! I thought it gave good insight to how you worked, perhaps you no longer use paper towels? I still find you so measured and your mark making is exquisite. You create a pear and the impressionistic viewpoint is all we could ever ask for!! I realize you can only offer so much for free and you must continue to create revenue for your livelihood. I know those who were able to take advantage of your newest class will be better for the opportunity to work with you. I hope to see more of your demonstrations like this in the future. Please continue to grow and pass along your wisdom as best as you can. Thank you for allowing us to tag along your journey. I was so sure you were going to go a whole painting without rubbing, Ahh but towards the end you did! Thanks for that! I look forward to watching your future offerings and hope you and your family have a wonderful time.

I am just starting with pastels (been focused on oils) but I am going to start imitating Alain's hand motions as he stabs at the paper and then pulls back like he's fencing and his pastel is the sword.

I loved it without background music, as I can listen with my favourite classical tracks as backing music...Love your painting style, so decisive, deliberate, and well considered, yet painterly...this is what I aspire to create. Best instruction video series out there IMO.

Sir what kind paint is that purple thing you put as base on the board? Is that acrylic paint? Thanks in advance. i really enjoy your videos and I really learned a lot. monie here from manila philippines.

Again another amazing rendition; I freaked when I saw your choice of deep purple underpainting. I can't imagine how you saw that but it all worked out. Was there a hint of purple in the pear, anywhere, that led you to that underpainting? Or is it just a "feel" - that is a gift that's not easy to pass on. Thanks again for another inspiring video.

Hi Alain! Your pear painting is stunning. Your strong shadows make for a convincing sense of form. I love the dark violet underpainting you started with. I have never tried this color for an underpainting- I typically use yellow ochre. I am inspired to try a dark violet. Your work is so gestural, bold, and painterly. Beautifully painted and wonderfully narrated.

Hi Dena, you just made me feel like a million bucks! Thanks for that. And I hope you have a wonderful time creating your violet underpainting! Put some of that yellow ochre on top and that would be very beautiful!

Alain, Have you ever discussed painting on a tabletop, small easel, or standing easel? I love how you paint with your whole arm and shoulder. When I follow your outstanding tutorials, I mimic you, like a musical conductor! Many thanks to you for sharing.

I am a big fan of painting standing so marks are made from the shoulder, Karlyn, but you can do it sitting, it just takes discipline. All the best!
