We always get the rough end of the stick,doing a brand new kitchen and then by the time it gets to painting everybody wants to work to a budget,yet another top job you have done there P&D style,well done sir👍🏻

Too right - and it takes just as much prep to put on less paint and if it looks anything less than 100% the client thinks you did a bad job!

Fair play to you mate! Plastering was a bit rough and that caulk gobbed in down by the skirting is an eye opener! The joys of being the last man in! I do kitchen fitting more than painting and carpentry etc... but the ocd comes out in me when I decorate. Hense why I love your videos! Top man! Cheers Marc

Thanks and yes decorators are always the ones left to clean up and put things right. But I've found sometimes rooms left a mess like bathrooms and kitchens after being refitted can be a sign something is broken or scratched. So when you clean up and move the mess you will find a scratch or remove caulk and the will be a bad cut or a scratch.
@jackwardley36262 жыл бұрын
yes were the ones to put everything right and make it look good then people expect to pay you the least a lot of time wasters about especially when people dont expect to pay for quotes anymore when your driving miles to their house and back picking colours pricing could spend hours around peoples houses sometimes

Lovely job as always mate those hinges on the cupboard door if you push them at the back they should come off then snap back in no need to take screws out

When it comes to electric sockets on walls, is it worth removing the screws to paint around the areas of the socket or just mask / tape it up?

Oh the joys of people using caulk over everything.. has its place but not for where it’s been used here. Try my hardest not to use the stuff. But I guess on a budget you have these type of things happen. Commend your prep and finish on this though mate! Lovely as always!

Thank you, and yes caulk is only suitable for certain things.
@squeakmillward3 жыл бұрын
just used some gunable filler from poundland it took ages to go off but didnt shrink back like caulk sanded nicely as well

Well done for making it look presentable, to be fair there are numerous things wrong with that kitchen installation. Pretty poor they didn't even get you in to at least mist coat before the units went in.

Never understand why anyone fits a kitchen before painting? Making hard work of it doing it that way round
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
May be but the will always be things to touch up. But it's better way only ever painted one kitchen before it's fitting.

These videos are brilliant, they are a big help as I've just started up on my own. A few questions though, how come you seal the walls in with a pva mix? I've been using this armstead plaster sealer, do you think that does the job? I do one coat armstead then depending on the top coat colour i'll do one or 2 coats for topcoats.
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Thanks you can use a non vinyl paint or there is paints out specifically for new plaster. But being somewhat of a perfectionist in what I do, using PVA allows me to first check over the plaster remove or sand any imperfections in the plaster then I would give it a coat of diluted PVA which soaks into the plaster a lot further than thinned paint carrying pigment. Then I would do filling and sometimes I will fill all around between ceiling and walls, and up the corners to give perfect cutting in for colours. Then a coat of PVA over filler then a light sand. Now you're ready for your first full coat, not a mist coat and of your chosen colour. So, in short, you can do half the preparation before any paint is opened. No short measures for the perfect finish. Benefits of PVA helps you prepare faster drys very quick. Cuts down on the amount of paint and fantastic grip.

I missed a bit here somewhere - been binge watching your vids! So is this a purple kitchen paint straight from the tin or did you thin the first coat? I enjoyed your mist coat with PVA video in the hallway stairs and landing and have since been reading great things about Wickes/screwfix 'Paint for new Plaster'. Everything's changed since I painted full time 15 years ago - I'm loving all the water based paints for wood! Have you tried the Paint For Fresh Plaster? Got a new build in March to do and would love your advice. Feels like I've learnt more in the last coupe of days than I did working for 15 years!

Mate.... You are the master! Always learning from your vids.... You've taught me so much. Two questions though.... Sometimes you apply a mist coat and other times you use pva. Is there a rough rule of thumb as to when to mist and when to pva? Also, what ratio of pva do you use? Many thanks! Best Dave

Don't need to remove screws to remove doors, just unclup the hinges. No tools required.

Can you quote me for a job in a small bathroom please? Stripped lining paper off and there’s a failed mist cost underneath. Removing all paint flakes myself with hot soapy water, but want someone professional to apply next coat on bare plaster (especially with it being in a bathroom) Based on Tyldesley. Cheers

After you have pva the new plaster do you first coat neat or do you let down the emulsion a bit
@PaintingandDecorating6 жыл бұрын
on neat usually. And if you do add water never pour it back into the stock tin, will go bad fast.

Should at least get a mist coat on before the kitchen is fitted. Ideally get a first coat of whatever finish is going on as well. Makes life a lot easier.
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
It is a good idea but customers phone up after they've had things fitted.
@dazza9445 жыл бұрын
Before the kitchen is fitted: empty room and a big roller. After kitchen: less wall, paint brush, roller, masking tape to cut in, a step ladder and a lot more fucking patience!

Thanks, sometimes customers just want labour and have already got the paint. And we get asked what we can cut back on at times to save them some money.

To be honest a lot of my work comes by recommendation so usually I give an estimate, and they accept some times I may get questioned on the price. But because they know the quality before hand usually every price is accepted.
@andrewgardner37742 жыл бұрын
Typical. Everyone else gets paid well and you go in and not only do a budget job correct other folks mess and faults..not worth doing let them crack on themselves..if on a budget customer should be cleaning the plaster off skirts !its one thing having pride in your own work and giving a service but there are times where you should know you’re mugging yourself off..just my opinion
