Do you think these original infantry units still hold a place of value in your lists?

Absolutely!! Best objective campers with Guard Captain and Lannister Supremacy!!
@Jewus193 жыл бұрын
I must say they are a bit behind due to the slight powercreep but I personally still value halberdiers but I know that they are not one of the stronger units in game sadly. Also, everything started well, the red, the silver metal...just after I painted the gold trims on the first halberdier I started to question my life choices.. :D
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
Oh, yeah. Painting the gold trim is not only tricky, but it’s GRUELING. It is physically exhausting for me to paint all that detail, but keep it up, it’s worth it in the end!

DO you think a red ink wash over the red would be better than nuln oil? I must admit, I've never seen anyone use red wash, but nuln oil does make it look amazing
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
You could definitely do that for a deeper red color, but I specifically chose not to, because you wouldn’t want the red wash to get on the gold trim or insignia, as it would change it from gold to red. If you want to use red wash, make sure you don’t get any on the gold.

Awesome video . Could you use sand as a basing material then dry brushed ?
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
You could, but depending on the grain size of the sand, you may want to mix it in with glue and paint at the same time, or even apply it with super glue before you prime the figure. All these techniques can have varying results, but they all look pretty good, it just depends on the look you’re going for.

@@MikeMeeple I'm just poor and I usually eat sand for dinner but thought I could use sand maybe dry brushed green. Or I could get some flock I guess

Would priming in black and painting on the red with a brush have the same effect? I'm trying to save some money, but how much extra time would it cost me this way?
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t have the same affect per se, but you could definitely do it. You’ll just miss out on the rudimentary shading they red spray over black would provide, but you can achieve the same thing by taking a little more time with your shades and highlights.
@thecalvatron19553 жыл бұрын
Looks great. Did you use multiple coats of nuln oil? The shadows are really dark, darker than I can normally get with a single coat of nuln oil. Looks great though as it adds some really nice contrast
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
I only used a single coat of nuln oil. What you’re seeing are the effects of the zenithal priming. Giving the black basecoat, then spraying with Mephiston Red from above helps darken those shadows, and then you highlight up to give it as much contrast as you like!
@thecalvatron19553 жыл бұрын
@@MikeMeeple thanks so much for the info and swift reply. I'm going to buy the Stark vs Lannister set soon. How long did you find it took to paint each of the Lannister infantry models? I'm going to do the math and see what I'm letting myself in for 🤦♂️
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
Lannister is tricky because of the gold trim. If you batch paint them (do multiple of the same model at once) you could probably get through about 5-6 in 2 hours or so, drying time included.

I’m using scarlet and gore red. But they seem very dull . Are the reds you use a lot brighter ?
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
Red Gore is a decent Mephiston Red substitute, and Scarlet would work for Dark Vermillion, but you’re missing something to sub in for the Amatanth Red, which is an orangey red. That provides that final highlight and really makes the highlights pop.

Would spraying it just red work as well?
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
You could, but you’d lose some of the depth and rudimentary shading that happens from the zenithal process.
@thehonestaspy1023 жыл бұрын
@@MikeMeeple would two spray coats not cover the detail?
@MikeMeeple3 жыл бұрын
That’s one of the reasons I use Stynylrez primer. It goes on very thin, so the details still stand out. The Citadel Color Spray is also quite good in that regard. Army Painter color primers are a little thicker, so I wouldn’t recommend using that for the whole model, though for how I apply it here, it’s probably okay. In fact, I actually use this same technique with Army Painter’s Plate Mail Metal primer for my Rose Knights.
@thehonestaspy1023 жыл бұрын
