I really like the idealized pictures they use ingame, it helps put the image in your mind as to what it should look like without the limitations of N64 graphics. Like even though the enemies and water in wet dry world don't look like that, I still think of them like that in my mind, same with things like tall tall mountain and Whomp's fortress. The 3D Bowser model in this game has to be one of the weirdest phenomenons of Nintendo. It looks absolutely nothing like any previous concept art, and in the DS remake they managed to make it perfect with less polys...
@Solibrae5 жыл бұрын
This is one of the first times they ever made 3D models for these characters, so I guess it took the developers a couple of tries to get it right.
@Bspammer5 жыл бұрын
There's no way the ds remakes had fewer polys. Less resolution, sure.
@npc_blob16095 жыл бұрын
They made high-quality renders of all the characters, so I don't think it was their first time making a model of Bowser. However I did hear that the models were made as though coming off a conveyor belt; one after another, and none were replaced, so they didn't get a chance to touch it up. And it may have been their first shot at making Bowser for the game. Also, I don't know about Bowser, but Mario's model does have less polygons in the DS remake.
@huttyblue5 жыл бұрын
The tools available at the time were also way worse than modern ones. This was 1996 we're talking about, windows 95 was hot off the presses, the internet was barely off the ground. As for quality, the DS remake has access to higher resolution textures and bone based animation. Where as the n64 was throwing extra polygons just so they could have hard color cuts and caps to the joints on the character's limbs. And yeah, on top of that it was rushed.

On the side of a heave-ho, probably.

Keep in mind most of my experience with 64 is the DS version, so while I assume now that the logo is present there, it can go missed pretty easily on the DS's comparatively miniscule screen. I'd probably see it if I kept my eye really sharp.

Heave Ho's do not feature the logo in the DS version if I recall correctly

This is why those original paintings are so unique. They were old stock artwork. The game's models can't really recreate it, but this is a good attempt.

What makes this interesting to me is that a lot of the painting art is made with 3d models that don't match the ones in game. Meaning they created and textured separate models just for the paintings I want to see those models in full now

3:20 that's a pretty cool 1-frame animation you got there

Those paintings I think were just Nintendo flexing those Silicon Graphics workstations, they were hella expensive.

This song gave me time to reflect on Mario 64, and its' ending. Much the same way Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a museum and culmination of video game culture, beating Boswer and hearing him say to keep that joy stick smokin', was a welcome to it.

The Rainbow Ride recreation looks better than the original. Same goes for Peach, the original painting looks derpier than the in-game model.

im seriously baffled at how much interesting content you're pulling out of *just* SM64 over the course of your channels. like, im just as engaged with this video as i was when i first saw watch for rolling rocks 0.5x. good stuff, pannen.

8:19 Couldn't you have used the texture on the ceiling of the main room, where you enter wing cap stage, which (I think) is the exact same texture as original painting?

This content is incredible. You continue to push the SM64 envelope to its outer limits - outstanding work!
