Thank you! I need to paint a sign today. Unfortunately, it is attached to a pillar so i have to do it all standing up. This is the technique I will use. So glad I found this, even though it's been 9 years.

Buy the foam rollers from Lowe's the 2" or 4" with the metal handle the shortest you can find ,and roll your paint ,if you use enamel 1 shot paints ,after the first roll waiting few seconds rolls again to break the air bubbles ,works really good for me ,is short nap rollers 3" but is hard to find them ,maybe amazon sell them .

Excuse me ,I tried to say: with the foam roller 😅😅😁

Use a 3” shurline short nap roller instead, it applies the paint evenly and gives you a smooth finish without brush marks.

Thanks, I was trying stuff like painting the top first, then applying contact paper, then cutting, etc, but this method where I just paint the letters last is definitely easier with better results.

I tried your method before and works really nice with Matthew's paints and primer but not or at least for me ,using latex because after 2 coats latex breaks and is like trying to break latex glove ,I didn't like that way ,I always prime abd paint after removing the the sandblasted mask ,works better for me .

Mmm I see that he didn't used primer after the sandblasted ,I always use primer let it dry and after I use latex paint or enamel 1 shot paints ,I don't know if matters or not, maybe I try next time with out primer , but my signs have better cover and much less open pores ,specially when I use low quality HDU foam

Do you sand between coat of paint. Wet sanding or no

Great video but I would change one aspect if I were you. The white should have been put down on all the red sections as well when doing the other white bits. This would have given the red a lot more vibrancy.

Where can I get the foam brushes with the plastic core?

What about the sides of the text...they should be white not red...to create a true 3d effect...and very hard to do

All of the painted lettering could have been painted on the surface BEFORE the sandblast mask was applied - remove the mask , and the sign is done !

Alan Scott what about the background? Are you painting the background AFTER you paint the letters?

I guess the sign designer should need to point exactly in what measures the lettering is gonna be place 🤔 with different colors, maybe I'm wrong but would take longer designer time to exactly specify in what section paint what color 🤔, I work in a sign shop ,and I always prime my sign after removing the sanblasting mask ,, painting before sandblasted is a pain in the neck for me ,never worked nice ,always had the trouble to remove the sandblasted mask and if I used latex the paint broke really ugly like reaping a latex glove 😀 😄 and I have a damaged paint because the person who did the sandblasted wasn't careful about it and sandblasted the painted parts under the mask ,was a mess for me.
