Thanks. Yes, the linen panels I have been using are so nice to paint on that I couldn't wait to try them out. I then noticed that when I was painting on a white surface my colours looked cleaner and I wasn't having to make value readjustments. Thats not to say you shouldn't paint on a toned surface, both have their advantages, but lately I have been enjoying painting on a white surface 😊

I find myself a bit envious of you Sam, it looks like such a beautiful place. As for the envious part; it’s because I am confined most of the time to a wheelchair as I became paralyzed from a stroke. I used to spend so much of my time outdoors previously and also I am forced to use my still functioning non-dominant hand to try to paint as I did before. I was left handed;but sadly that’s now my paralyzed side.All of that aside;you are a great inspiration and are highly appreciated!Thank you!

I'm so sorry to hear that, but it's good you are still painting. Have a look at Dr Robert Morse's channel here on KZbin, I don't know but maybe it might help. Here is the link: kzbin.info/door/0ZBff-hRPchbXSe2o-aZdA Really please you are enjoying my videos, your support is appreciated. Cheers 😊

That pthalo green is some strong stuff. Easy to have it get away from you. I’ve heard Sap green is a mix of two pigments pthalo green and yellow ochre. If so maybe it would be handy to have a premix ready.
@SamuelEarpArtist3 жыл бұрын
Yes you will only need a very small amount of phthalo green so it will last you as well. I have not used sap green. 😊

Thanks greatly appreciated Samuel for your plein air painting, enjoyable video as always although I'm not using oil paints yet.I would like your opinion on watercolour or oil paints, is it possible to use your methods in watercolour paints? .Thanks greatly appreciated glad you're keeping well and making videos stay safe and healthy
@GalleryBry3 жыл бұрын
For oil painting I often encourage my students to paint from dark to light, this helps keep the dark paints from being diluted by light paint and enables layering of light paint over the dark paint. This is also helpful because highlights often are over shadows. In watercolor, the white of the paper serves as the lights, so you have to work from light to dark, the opposite of oil painting. You can’t layer white over dark with watercolor because the paper is the white. Was that helpful? :)

@@philipdown3147 You’re quite welcome. :) Hope you are having a great day! -Bry
@SamuelEarpArtist3 жыл бұрын
Hey Philip, sorry for my late reply. Yes I agree with Gallery Bry's comments on painting dark to light with oils and you'll see this in my videos as I always start by painting my dark values first. Watercolours handle very differently to oil paints so again as Gallery Bry says you work from light to dar. You could try using goauche paints as these have a much thicker consistency than watercolours and you can create effects that look similar to oil painting. If you would like to try oil painting I can personally recommend Blue Ridge Oil Colors, this is the brand I am using: blueridgeoilpaint.com/ I hope this helps. Cheers. Sam
