I have suffered from depression long time and have been open about it. Offline and online at various occasions. Once I got a reply on one of those occasions from someone thanking me for talking about it because it helped them. Men, we need to talk. About those things. Talking helps. Even it's only there to show you: you're not alone! So thanks Guy for putting this out there and make it seen. Cheers.

Being a single father is rough, co-parenting is rough... the weeks without my kids are rougher still. I got into Warhammer to occupy my time in the evenings after work while the kids are gone and have been watching your channel for around 5 years now. Glad you got a good reaction from your littles with the new facial hair. My youngest gets upset when I trim my beard, I haven't seen my face going on 15 years.

Guy, I really appreciate how open and REAL you are about things while diving into toys and allowing yourself and all of us to escape from the darkness of real life to enjoy some communal crafting, painting, hobbying, and nerdy joy. COVID was a dark time, and definitely triggered the depression that I’ve always struggled to keep just barely at bay. Finding Warhammer, painting, your channel and a few others like Black Magic Craft and Goobertown Hobbies helped me find a creative, quiet space where I could get some solace. Rock on! 🤘

Guy, I am currently painting up my Leagues of Votann that I got last year for Christmas while I listen to your videos. I don't do a lot of painting over the course of a year, I usually just do it when I need to relax. And this time's no different. I've recently started on a new medication to help with my depression, and it's caused some distressing side-effects for me while I'm at work. I can tell you with certainty that the videos you upload to KZbin of yourself painting a toy (8:30) do help to a degree with this process of mine. Your videos are so, SO relaxing. If I couldn't listen to your videos while I painted, I think the next best thing would be some slow, night time jazz. Point being, I hope that you value yourself and these videos you make as much as I do.

While I don't mess around with Warhammer stuff, painting miniatures is my stress reliever. I do Battletech and use the time painting to relax and recover from crazy days at work. Working in a jail can make for some dark moments in life. Recently, things were going wrong at work that kept me from being able to actually work and it was taking me to a dark place because I could not provide for my family properly. No one asks a man how their mental health is. They always ask how they are and if a man shows weakness, we are thought of as defective and weak. We have to maintain an aura that betrays what is really going on inside. Painting, playing games, watching others paint...these help with the darkness and brings me back to the light. Fortunately, the issues at work have been resolved, I am back working, however, those dark thoughts still haunt me from time to time. I still paint, every day, even if for just a few minutes. I am glad that you are doing things for men's mental health. Not enough is truly said or done because, as I mentioned, it makes us seem weak, fragile and defective....things that women and other men see as failures. The man who maintains and pushes forward is stronger than you can imagine. Thank you for doing your part!

I am a fan of the White Scars (novels, general aesthetic and tabletop play-style), but as always wanted to do my own thing with Space Marine-side of the 3rd Edition 40k box I bought twenty years ago, so my bifurcated Dark Angel-ish green and orange boys with their yellow helmets and dark brass aquilas were born. They hail from a warm rainforested world so not as many bikes and a more South American/Amazon Jungle-kinda vibe, but everything else is pretty much the same. I feel a bit conflicted. I bought a couple of those Chibi-style Space Marine figures to paint over in my scheme. (You know, for the planet's Rio-style Carnival parades--every chapter of marines needs a mascot.) So I got a White Scar and a Tome Keeper marine off of ebay after the price on the blank, Sprue-gray marine went through the roof, figuring they would be easiest to paint over, but now I kinda don't want too except to grimdark them up a bit. Well... maybe I'll still paint over the Tome Keeper. 😉

It's a very easy mistake to think painting white means starting from a white base coat. Much like you don't paint a model JUST the deepest black and nothing else, you need to start at Less White and build up to a white highlight. Really love the way the sponges created the almost textured effect on the armor here. Very nice.

Also: Important subject you're tackling there, I'm a 38 yo father of three, and Gork dammit there are days when the answer to the question "How do you tackle all this stuff?" is just "I don't, sometimes I just don't because I can't." As someone suffering from Dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder) and Asperger syndrome I fully support that society is speaking more open about mental health issues in men. Sadly the "real men don't cry" attitude is still strong with most people, that definitly needs to change! The model itself looks nice, just dont like White Scars. But probably an awesome model to kitbash a proper and good looking Inquisitor Coteaz^^

in amongst all the lovely comments just to say i'd stick to proper artists solvents for diluting oil washes, i use them a lot and i discovered early on straight 'white spirit' that stinks can damage the base coat even through varnish and it'll break up and slide off, and might be why his leg fell off. the fancy stuff still has a hint of that smell so you can still sniff it all you like, just like in art class! shit, just me..?

If you have a mould line like that one on the power pack, where there isn't much detail but you will struggle to get your knife to all of it. Instead of damaging the part with your blade, simply put some plastic glue on it using something thin and firm that's not plastic. The glue should dissolve the edge and you can then push any remaining bits down to get a smooth edge.
@idontwanttopickone4 күн бұрын

And it isn't like I am going to be out of a house or food on the table. But, there are still some part of some days when that looming dread will rear its head.
