I think a lot of the DLSS 3.0 frame generation revolves around a placebo effect. Frame generation doesn't add responsiveness since all it does is interpolate frames between actual full render passes. It is those full render passes where the controls, networking and physics are done. At best, those interpolated frames smooth outs some visual stuttering.
@StrengthScholar0
@StrengthScholar0 Жыл бұрын
I don't think you(or the people who liked your comment)understand the definition of the placebo effect. Frame generation creates a measurably smoother image by presenting interpolated frames to the screen of the user. While this comes at the cost of latency the loss in latency is significantly less noticeable than the improvement in the framerate. (Specifically when DLSS3 is implemented on native 60fps) The placebo effect would be having a frame counter show that the game was playing at 100fps when the actual framerate was 60fps. Then having people claim it was smoother than the 60fps image. Also framerate and latency aren't inextricably linked. This becomes apparent when streaming games. You can have a smooth 60 FPS image streaming to your device but have a noticeable 80ms delay. That doesn't mean that The 60 frames you're getting are 'placebo frames". It just means that you're getting an acceptable frame rate and unacceptable latency.
@ninjafrozr8809
@ninjafrozr8809 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't aim to add responsiveness in the first place. In fact Nvidia straight up tells you that frame generation will reduce responsiveness. The goal is just to increase fps at the cost of increased input lag.

You should try and lock the framerate to 60fps. This will relieve some of the stress on the cpu and will improve the 1% and 0.1% low's. And supersample the resolution to 4K. Overall, most of us are gaming on 60hz monitors.

Wow. You don't understand the point of this at all.
@builder396
@builder396 Жыл бұрын
@@Those_Weirdos No, I think you dont. Upping the resolution to 4K, even if it gets downscaled to the monitors resolution, really can put a lot more work on the GPU without even affecting CPU load, which generally is something worth doing if the GPU is underutilized and bottlenecked. That, and locking the framerate, will reduce CPU load a little as fewer frames need to be prepared by the CPU, giving it a little more breathing space for utilization spikes.

Very fun to see, but can't say I'm surprised by the results either. Late last year I helped my sister upgrade her PC and her GPU came before the new CPU. Even with something like a RX 6600 had stuttering issues even if fps was well above 100 just because 100% CPU utilization will exhibit stutter. Probably because the idea is the same as with how Nvidia Reflex works in that there's some latency if the hardware in question is pegged at 100%. Definitely the case here, especially in Forza where that game normally has tight % lows, but here it was a wider gap than normal. I think just locking the framerate and/or playing at 4K, 4070's supposed issues at that resolution aside, might've yielded even more surprising results for playability.

@@wilbertreyes7427 Sorry for late reply, didn't get notified of your comment for some reason. But she had a Ryzen 3200g, which is also heavily thread limited as it's only 4 cores 4 threads due to lack of hyperthreading. I'm sure for any decent 6c/12t chip like the 12400F or 5600/5600x it would really only struggle with lower resolutions like 1080p (or upscaling/rendering even lower res) but be totally fine at 1440p or higher.

I recently acquired a very nice custom PC from the builder's dad - it's an older Antec case, from around 2005 with the unusual, for the time, plastic glass side (P160w for those wanting to know)... I bought the system from a single, bad photograph on Marketplace - because the case, man, the case... It's a Phenom system, with some decent parts (Noctua, Corsair, etc) - but I have no want for a pre-FX computer (which I have one of, in a modern case, possibly my first dozing off build - not quite a sleeper, but odd). I really feel like in honor of the 00's vibe that it needs to be appropriate - but modern. I've been leaning into a vastly overpowered motherboard with a lowly gold series pentium so I can throw the case badge on it... The Pentium 4 would have been at it's end days, and making a modern Pentium system in it seems like a good project. I also need a better rig than my 2010 dual-xeon Mac Pro Linux rig to run games on my CRT. I don't actually game on my real computer, because, I dunno... it's the household computer? I've watched these g7400 videos a few times - trying to figure out how this would work as someone playing cRPGs - traditionally high demand on the CPU and less on the GPU... But I keep thinking, "How many cores is this really taxing?" I really want to build computers for off the wall purposes I guess?

every other frame has a dreamy ai-generated sheen, so yes you're correct. it is more than fine for some games but in fast-paced games it affects the experience. Civilization wouldn't be negatively affected, Modern Warfare would.

I've tried frame generation and it's not all what it's cracked up to be. You can easily notice the ghosting and it's very distracting. And you'll still feel the hitching from your CPU bottlenecking too.
@DjVortex-w
@DjVortex-w Жыл бұрын
If the CPU is being the bottleneck and the GPU is mostly idle, then pump up the resolution! Don't let that GPU power go to waste. If the CPU is limiting the framerate anyway, there's really no need to use a low resolution. You'll get the same framerate but a much better picture with a higher resolution.

The 7900XT/XTX looks better. But I guess it's subjective. And it doesn't really matter anyway if you don't have a glass door on your PC case, which I don't. I prefer to have noise dampening foam instead of glass. Especially since I mostly use it at night (when it's very quiet).

nope, phenom and fx processors are too weak as they are, no need to pair this GPU to them, they are too weak for an RX 580. also the phenom lacks instruction-sets already, it's obsolete. the i7 2600 is enough for gtx 980 / rx 580 / gtx 1060.

Phenom II 955 / 965 "Black Edition", which were top-of-the-line back in 2009, lack some SSE4.x instructions which make a lot of games unbootable that were released after ~2016 or so. You try to launch them and they error out.

The i7 2600 is not even dramatically slower than like an i7 8700 (not even a third performance loss), though it lacks 2 cores. I don't think the i7 2600 would be an issue with these games with or without frame generation. Am I missing something? It's a 4 core 8 thread CPU with decent performance, it would run fine.

I paired a 6700k (no oc) with that 4070. At 1080p, spider-man runs at an average of 60, the witcher lower than that. This with FG on, without it you are looking at 30fps on average. Frame generation works wonders, but it still was a horrible experience.
