Pairing Multiple Computers To The Mares LED Transmitter / Multi Gas
When diving with an Air Integrated Computer, safety and redundancy tends to be a concern for most divers. So it raises the question, "Can you pair a single hoseless transmitter to two different Air Integrated Computers?" Well, lets find out together.
Well now you know. Whether you plan on using this as a redundancy source, your maybe you are simply a PARENT dive buddy that wants to keep track of your child's air supply, connecting two computers to a single transmitter is possible.

I tried this with a Mares Icon HD and a Smart Air - when the second computer paired (whatever the order), the first computer always lost its paring. It seems likely that this is related to the tank module itself not being able to memorise 2 pairings. Did you manage to validate that both computers remain paired, even after closing an re-opening the tank valve?

Hello @timshannon77. Outside of this video, we have not explored much more into the topic. From personal experience with the LED Transmitter, I have found that as the battery gets weaker, it can come unpaired at times. Its also possible it could be a firmware issue with the computer itself. Something may be causing it to force the unpairing of one or the other transmitters.

A lot of divers will use a single button computer for a back up. In the Mares line the Puck Pro is a great option.

Presumably this will also work on suunto computers and other manufactures like Tisa. Aqualung etc.

Hello Kurt, I have heard that other manufactures have programmed their computers to do the same, but not sure exactly which model. If you have an Air Integrated Computer of a different manufacture than Mares, test it out and let us know.

@@LakeHickoryScuba Certainly Brian. But only have one at present. Suunto vyper air 2. With suunto transmitter. I would need to borrow a second one. I tend to use a traditional divers watch as back up. As we never had these doing clearance diving in the Royal Navy. But will let you know if I can sort it out the results.

I too will usually dive with a pressure gauge as well, even while using an Air Integrated Computer.

Although you paired both computers it does not show that both computers held the pairing. If you do the same test again but once you pair the second the computer, shut off the valve and purge the pressure down 3/4, 1/2 1/4 to see if both computers register the pressure change.

Do you expect much advances in AI computers, I'm waiting for the price to come down also how tough is the transmitter, are they able to sustain a tank falling over?

Hey john, I have seen the price on computers come way down and go way up over the years. Most transmitters can take a beating, and as some have the fear of them being damaged or dislodged in a cave system, it would take an extreme amount of force to sever the connection and cause a catastrophic failure. With this being said, dropping a tank does provide enough force to do so, and could cause a failure. All the more reason to never leave a cylinder standing with out it being secured.

Very doubtful reall as the are plastic internal parts. Like you get in a torch won't take much impact damage. Hope it helps.

One of my friends has mounted his transmitter on a 10cm hose - this somehow helps to prevent the damage in case of the tank falling down.

A lot of divers choose to do this, sometimes it helps with pairing issues as well.

Hello Piotr Kubiec, if you were diving in a Sidemount configuration, where each tank had a separate transmitter, and you had two computers, then yes you could pair two computers to two different transmitters, while both were filled with 21%. But to use one computer for two different air sources, basically one computer for two transmitters, you would need two different partial pressures of O2 to make it work.

@@LakeHickoryScuba thanks for a quick reply. The idea was that I buy 2 computers and 2 transmitters for me and my wife and we pair both of our computers with both transmitters and we can see each other's tank pressure, but I guess that won't work here, am I right?

No unfortunately that will not work, unless you guys were diving different gas mixtures. Then it would only work if you did a gas switch. There would be no way for you to monitor each others gas without the gas switch.

You can definitely monitor your own and a partner's and vice versa with certain computers. As much as I love Mares' gear, you might have to look elsewhere for your computer /ai solution
