The group led by Serang Dakko, whom one of the maestro of Pakarena dance and music from Makassar. The composition with: two drums, one flute and one gong, were the basic ensemble of typical music ensemble in South Sulawesi.
The Pakarena dance, is a classic dance, court dance, meditative-like. The original duration is from 7pm to 5am and performed at any important ritual or occasion in Makassar people, e.g: wedding, birthday, coronation or cleansing the crown and royal palace’s jewelries, harvest and community party.
Pakarena Ma’biring Kassi means dancing and walking on the beach.
The location took place at Benteng Somba Opu, the place where the palace of Kingdom of Gowa, back to 15-17th century, used to exist. The Makassar war in 1669 between Gowa and Dutch (VOC) destroyed the almost whole part of the fort.
