Pakistan seeks more funds from IMF

A mission from the International Monetary Fund is currently in Pakistan for a review that could unlock much-needed funds for the South Asian economy. At stake is a tranche of more than US$1 billion. Pakistan is facing a string of challenges and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tasked his cabinet with finding ways to steer the country out of the crisis. Hira Mustafa reports from Islamabad.

Some Nobel prize winners in Economics, including Dr Paul Krugman and Dr Robert Mundell, etc. attacked Mahathir's macroeconomic policy mix. However, Malaysia was the first to emerge from the AFC using an unorthodox economic policy of fixing the exchange rate with high GDP growth rates later on. Pakistan also needs to work on developing homegrown policies to overcome challenges. However, for the moment due to burgeoning debt and its repayments, we need to go to the IMF. No other choice!
