The 2011 World Cup Semi-Final. The first and last time I cried for Cricket. Probably because Afridi was the captain and the Nation's Hero. Really don't wanna recall that memory again 😭.

Another banger guys. This is slowly becoming my favourite podcast. Started watching only because of that Bumrah video and ended up getting hooked. This topic has triggered some traumas. For me as an Indian, funnily it js the same world cup rehan mentioned. Semifinal vs sri Lanka because how the match ended. It was shameful as an indian fan. Then the 2023 world cup final versus the bloody australians. We had won every game, we were by far the best team, it was being played at our biggest ground and we lost. Indian fans have never felt as invincible as in 2023 so losing that even at my age made me cry.

As an Indian 2023 WC Final,Pure WC hamare 3 fast bowlers ne jabardast bowling ki thi kabhi bhi India ki taraf se aesa nahi dekha
@naumanrupani2 ай бұрын
As a unbiased Cricket fan, SA v Aus semi in 99 is top of the list. If Pak had lost the final to that SA team, a trophy for SA would have been more than a consolation. And then WC 2019 final - can't think any cricket match of that much significance would ever be that close. Elements (Dharamasena's call, stokes sliding bat, boundary count rule) conspired to rob NZ. The grace with which KW handled the situation, absolute gentleman. But I still carry that heartache as I hear Eoin Morgan brag about "winning the WC" as a commentator every now and then.

2010 semi. That game was in the bag. We beat Aus that day, we lost to Hussey only. In the same vein, 2022 vs India at MCG. We lost to Kohli's genius. Kohli's forehand smash for 6, 3 byes on the bowled off free hit, nightmarish stuff. In retrospect, beating India in the 152-0 game is a generational heartbreak. It's one of those games which gave you an absolute high, but it all fell apart after that. The RizBar theory caused an immediate tragedy in the semi of that series but we closed our eyes, the same pair had horrible 2022 and 2024 WCs and yet we can't wake up. It's not a heartbreak for the moment, but something that laid the foundation of multiple heartbreaks for years to come.

India's victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan marked a turning point. Today, India stands as the world’s fifth biggest economy on the verge of becoming third by 2029, and the IPL has become the second biggest sports franchise globally. The immense credit for this success should go to that iconic final, which sparked widespread interest and played a pivotal role in making India a financial powerhouse.

1999 World Cup final was an epic disappointment. I did not watch cricket for the next 4 years. I was in first year in the medical college and watched the match in the tv room of our hostel. Our seniors had hired dhool walas for the match. It started with a lot of pomp and show but ended in tears . No one was in the tv room after the Pakistan innings. Everyone was in shock. Dholis did not get much opportunity to show off their skills.

99 WC Final was the end of my love for Cricket, now I just like it but never take itit too seriously. The way we lost made me really believe Pakistani cricketers are always gambling and not to be trusted. Then the second heartache came at the final nail came when I started to believe in the next generation but it was confirmation of corruption by Butt, Aamir and Asif. Since then I have not really sat down to watch a match full.

The 2023 WC final was the biggest heartbreak ever!!!
@Cinema_Scope_2 ай бұрын
For however great the 99 team was, it was very vulnerable to top order collapse against the moving team. There and only two and half batters in that final squad I can trust - Saeed Anwar, Inzi and half Ijaz against the moving ball. Again, I think it was a very good team for typical Asian wickets. Let's take an example of Ind 2011 team. It was a very good team right! but again for Asia. Sehwag Sachin Gambhir Virat Raina - Top5. Now, if that WC was in England and I am the selector, I would replace Sehwag with Rahane for opening, Sehwag for however good he was, it would take 2 good Anderson overs to nick him. Similarly, Gambhir with Dravid and Raina with Rohit. Rahane Tendulkar Dravid Virat Rohit - that top 5 is collapse proof to swinging ball. (Virat handled swing with white Kookaburra well btw, Dukes was an issue in his early career). Having MoYo would have added an extra shield, maybe Younis as well, he was around right. So, when we talk of teams, it should also be according to the playing conditions.
