I knew and heard many times over the course of my journey in Pakistan that the reason for those security escorts is to ensure the safety of the foreigner. Although it was tedious at times to be stopped so many times at many checkposts or waiting for the security convoy to arrive only to be changing them again with another security vehicle every other 20 or so kilometers. It all has to do with people from the Steppe region in Russia, which was the original homeland of Indo Europeans, one big branch of them went west wards in to Europe, the other branch went towards Central/South Asia region and Chitralis and other Dardic people aren descendants of those, of course with time they have also mixed with local South Asian dna, but they still score around 40% Steppe ancestry

there was never terrorism in Chitral and the escort is not because someone ordered them its because they are provided vehicles to provide security and they enjoy giving escort that's what the dude said but your translator had his own opinions

Maybe there wasn't anything specific in chitral, there has been some terrible incidents in the area of KPK, and the security escorts were there on the way from Peshawar to Chitral. I should mention that military or police presence was quite heavily during the entire way. Almost every 20 kilometers or so, we had another checkpost where we needed to show documents and wait quite a while for a different security convoy. I certainly appreciate their protection despite making our way much longer and more difficult 😀
