Even if noorjehan would have been in india, still lata mangeshkar would have been a legend. By the way also let me make it clear that there were many legendary singers ( who were Muslims for your information) like suraiya, Mubarak began, shamshad began were very very good singers who stayed in India and brleived in India then Pakistan. Gulam haider was supporting lata ji before 1947, that is before partition. The first song sung by lata was not given to her by naushad. Further lata ji , when taunted by naushad to sing like noorjehan, lataji sung the song in her own style. She never ever copied noorjehan.

It's strange that every legend faces rejection early in their career. Md Rafi, Kishor Kumar and even Amitabh Bachchan was rejected by All India Radio for poor voice quality! But it's foolish to compare two legends - Lata and Noor Jahan. People love both of them and always will.

Lata mangeshkar has sung more than 50,000 songs in Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Oriya, maithili, bhojpuri, Urdu, Hindi, marwadi etc. Languages There is no comparison between lata and noorjehan. Lata ji has sung bhajans, ayaats, gazals, cabree, and even quawalis. Noorjehan ji has not got opportunity to sing bhajans . So there is no comparison between two. Lata ji holds a Guinness book record for singing 50,000 songs.
