We don't have any national language but 2 official languages hindi and english We've 22 constitutional languages and apart from that every state has their own official language for eg - state of Nagaland has picked English as their official language instead of naga and Rajasthan picked hindi instead of any other rajasthani language such as (Marwadi or mewadi) interestingly these languages may not be official but can be often heard in telephonic machines along with english and during regional govt ceremonies which has only started in recent years.

Hindi is not national language. States have got their own languages, there are only upto 10 states that has Hindi as its state language , Apart from Delhi and Haryana rest of them such as Bihar, uttarkhand , jharkhand are most backward states. Maharashtra has got marati, gujarat got gujarati, bengal got bengali, kashmir got kashmiri, and so on. Hindi is just a language of comfort among north india since the language is similar to each other. since majority of people speak hindi, it does not mean that it is national language. it is like you guys speak Urdu but you understand Hindi by default, it applies to other northindian languages. but Hindi does not match with South Indian languages , try watching a Tamil movie and check if you can understand!
