When Namco introduced Pac-Land into the arcades, they preceded Nintendo's own Super Mario Bros. as one of the earliest side-scrollers in history. And Pac-Land was no slouch either, featuring parallax scrolling for some of the background elements, an impressive feat that would not become common place until the 16-bit console era began much later.

I wonder if the SMB creators were influenced by this game. It would've been cool to play Pac-Land on the NES.
@Bloodreign17 жыл бұрын
There is a Pac-Land for the Famicom, sadly it is nowhere as impressive as this game. Tiny sprites, and graphical downgrade mars the FC version, as expected.

Variant of 765, when in Goroawase (Japanese Wordplay) is: 7 = Nana = "Na" 6 = Mutsu = "Mu" 5 = Itsutsu = "Go" or "Ko" 765 = Na-mu-ko = Namco. That number is derivative on various Namco-Bandai Videogames, examples: Counting Scores, High Scores and "The Idolm@ster" Central Studio.
I never got past the bit with the diving board. How were you ever supposed to work out that you had to run into a random cactus in order to get the required powerup??

I've been working on making a Pac-Land-style level for Super Mario Maker! The Pac-Man costume is used, Bullet Bills would be the ghost on cars, Lakitus would be the ghosts on airplanes, Paratroopas would be the ghosts on pogo sticks, Super Stars would be Power Pellets, coins would be the fruits, and the pipes would be the fire hydrants.

Have this via a flawed disc of Namco Museum 4, the Japanese version. I bought it cheap for Pac-Land mainly, sadly only Pac-Land and Assault work, the disc won't run the other 3 games on it. I figured the price was too good to be true ($14.99), because it normally runs $50+ for a good copy of that compilation. The disc is real and all, but you can see a warped look on the underside of the disc. A real bummer, but at least Pac-Land works (but Return of Ishtar and Genpei Toumaden do not). :(

Remedied that situation within the last year, a flawless Namco Museum 4 JP version acquired, now everything is playable.

For 1984, this game was above expectations in the graphics department. Graphics this nice had never been seen before, it was a real eyepopper seeing this game in motion.

This guy plays way too slow. People jammed on the run button back in the arcade. Pac-Man FLEW across the screen. This guy sucked back in 2010, and sucks now, too.
@ultramaster2o1studios538 жыл бұрын
That's because the Japanese version of Pac-Land is slower but faster in the American version.

1984 kiddo, no one saw a game look this good in those days, considering it was the first side scroller, replacing the simpler one screen games with graphics you had to use your imagination for. This game even looked better than some later games, and is more fun to play than the eyecandy kids play today.
