I was thinking of the same thing for an avengers shield equip macro - arms warrior macros to swap to shield for shield bash is my starting template. I wonder if swapping weapons like that will get rid of reckoning proc charges. I can’t wait to do some testing!

Great series! But it would be helpful if you also talked about race as well! I.e, for paladins it’s obviously only dwarf or human but there are still advantages/disadvantages as far as base stats and racial abilities.

So with improved seal of the crusader 3/3 means that you will seal twisting between crusader and command?

An avengers shield macro actually never occurred to me since it’s been locked in the protection tree until now so you’d never use it for a deep ret spec. I think I’d prefer a ranged 50% slow over an interrupt for most general pvp. I’d say pursuit of justice is the way to go as well until the level 40 bracket where we can get the AB boots with +movement speed.

Is avengers shield a instant cast in SOD?

The thing with Avenging Shield is it dazes and lasts for 10 SECONDS. You can't resist Daze. Yeah you lose your interrupt but just getting kited is insta death if you can't catch your target. And the interrupt has to be in melee range anyways. Outside of blessing of freedom, with no cleanse, you aren't catching a mage. Also AFAIK doesn't say you need a shield equipped. Pursuit of justice is a no brainer. There really isn't a lot of movement at this level. Paladins should be able to stay close but might be not able to catch up if they don't have this.

I'm personally going holy, with all stam/ int gear, while taking all the offensive runes to help do dmg in pvp while healing my friend!

@PJ-mt6ku all good for pvp we just need to triage heal, and protect the priest with dispells, etc. I rather do dmg and have unlimited mana to support the team type of play style.

@timo5563 I would go into the Holy tree and take 5/5 spiritual focus so that you can dang near free cast while getting attacked, and go 3/3 healing light. Also grab consecrate. That alone is some of the best healing talents in all of the Holy tree. For runes, I would take divine storm, crusader strike, and exorcism. I would make friends with another dps class. Go into ashenvale, dps people down and when you or your friend are dying start healing up with bubble if you have too, or after hojing them. I love this build because you can heal any dungeon, you can quest and you can pvp. You can qear stam/ into gear to heal, or you can swap to strength/ into gear to do really good dmg. If you want to to do big dmg I would go into ret tree and take seal of command, make friends with a feral druid to give you windfury, and you will body people.

Surely that fear dispel is gonna be strong as fuck. Gets rid of it for the pala and party I see that being more viable in group pvp. Solo I can understand the shield method, but if a warlock fears me and is going in the attack for chaos bolt etc … that’s gonna rip. Tough choice

So then should they not allow other classes like warrior to swap to sword and shield midfight when facing rogues? Or for classes to swap to skull to negate a blind or rocket helm? And you don't need macros but the reality is they do things for you faster and are really convenient. People who take advantage of them will benefit against others who don't. So make that macro and have fun dazing people for 10 seconds, or if you don't want to make a macro, then pull up your bags, right click on your shield, press your avengers shield ability, then find your previous wep and right click on it to swap back, your choice :P

@@Cahrub no I think they should make it so you are locked out to use avengers shield for 6 seconds after you equipped the shield. You get repentance stun anyways at 40. And it feels like a fun server when 2 handed paladins are throwing around shields. And I dont want a funserver like the other one where you have 255 levels or so... And if they dont do it there is a reason to have the actual protection spec be viable in pvp because avengers shield really sounds broken. And then only prot palas have access to it. You know what I mean? I dont want a fun server and i want the classic feel of every class (and spec) feeling unique. Not ret paladins throwing around shields that just feels off.

@@manuellanthaler2001 yeah honestly if Blizzard sees the macro stuff happening I wouldn't doubt that they'd nerf the daze to like 3 seconds or something. We'll have to wait and see how pally does against other classes and their runes.

Honestly, unless runes drastically change the viability of specs or allow for specs that didn't exist to be viable, I'm not excited. I think they would have been better off putting their efforts into making attributes unlock different spec viability. Then the entire community would have to experiment with gear again. maybe if spirit gets high enough it regens hp in combat or increases energy or rage generation. There are so many things they could still do to the game it's ridiculous.

But the runes do appear to allow for builds that were not viable. Retribution is looking viable, as is protection. It seems like melee hunter might work. It seems like healer mage might work. Almost every class seems to be getting a new viable playstyle.

So my issue is two fold. One is viability the other is discovery. If the runes make more specs viable and more talents viable I'm all for it as long as it doesn't just homogenize the classes. My other issue is discovery, they're designing the runes with rotations in mind. Which means they've mathed the META. This is part of my problem with giving a one item change viability. Unless it's just an experiment that will later be dispersed. The original designers of wow said here are all these small incremental things that can change your character so go and have fun. The difference in discoverability and nuance is so much smaller in their "changes". Which essentially leads to less content. It's the difference between being given a bunch of legos and saying have fun. VS Giving legos that are already melded together and given an instruction booklet on how to make a particular structure. The structure will be great no doubt, but the potential of experimentation, innovation, mystery, and discovery isn't there like the original design was. To me that's what makes Classic WoW. This feels like Classic WoW+retail. Just the Rune part. Honestly, I'd be fine with importing most of TBC skills, which is what they are doing. The original designer Kevin Jordan said, TBC is when he "finished" his original design. He said he would have done more for classic if he had more time. I just don't see runes as a faithful successor to the design or as in-depth as the original philosophy. But we'll see, it won't stop me from testing. When you listen to Kevin Jordan's interviews he talks about being utterly thrilled to see new designers add to his foundation. This doesn't feel like adding to the foundation, 50% feels like it's being taken from TBC and simplifying the ability/talent system to runes. The original design philosophy was the greatest content is the player. The environment, encounters, items, talents, and abilities are merely a canvas for the player to paint upon with their choices. The rune system leads to very few choices, the abilities are so strong the player knows exactly what it's for. If they are trying to build a true classic plus they need to spread these abilities incrementally through the talent tree/cd's/abilities/items not just runes. This also leads to different spikes at different levels, which complicates the system even more and encourages people to change specs at different levels. I want the designers to build on that system not simplify it. @@vampiricalchemist
